Every other year we usually go to Ontario for a fishing vacation with the wife and 3 kids but this year with the high prices of everything and the passport issue to get into Canada I just thought I would try to find a nice clean family fishing resort in WI since I am a F.I.B. and it would only be about an 8 hour ride. I was hoping with the vast amount of people who frequent these boards someone would know of a nice place with decent fishing. Thanks

I never had the pleasure of fishing in Wisc but I am sure it can be a blast If you are interested in info concerning the state I have put a link on my homepage to all the 50 states and it is really pretty comprehensive in things you want to know by state. Just click the link below and its about 3/4 of the page down. Being new here I am sure as time goes by someone that knows that area will give you even more input Enjoy

I can't recommend a specific location, but I can tell you.....if your looking in the Northwoods area of WI, you better book eary. Many resorts fill quickly, and you will find yourself out of luck. Respects, Ed

Stay in IL...I'm sick of dodging you out of staters on the interstate!<g> Nah, seriously there's tons of great fishing up here, throughout the state. I'd skip the resorts and go to one of the billions of state/local parks and just camp tho...much much cheaper...and usually nicer imo. Rice lake/Chetek area has some great spots in the 8 lake system. Rhinelander's nice this time of year. Basically once you get north of the tourist trap we like to call the Dells you're usually going to find good people and nice places to camp out. Southern Wi has some nice areas as well, got Yellowstone State park over by the Argyle area, grat cat and bass fishing. Some areas around Albany/Evansville area have pretty decent trout/pike fishing. If you're looking for resorts, personally I'd head south to Kentucky and stay at the Kentucky Dam Marina...awesome catfish/bluegill/crappie/bass fishing there for about $100 a weekend for a room right off the river. Wolf, hth

Thanks for all the ideas so far guys keep em coming please. Wont be able to do the camping thing, 2 of the 5 people going are women and they are used to the nice resort we stay in when in Canada so that is out, but the idea of Kentucky is a good one. I guess as long as I can get wherever I'm going in about 8 hours or less and its got good fishing and is pretty scenery its cool with me just gotta find somewhere for the mid to late summer Thanks Again all

Many lakes and Minocqua has a nice big hotel on the lake. My Dad's cabin is about 35 minutes NE of Minocqua and that is where we go for fun. Vilas county has tons of lakes and nice areas.

Not quite all the way "up north" but fished a few times years back on the Miller Dam Flowage west of Medford. You might also want to check out the link below. I've gotten to a few places that turned out pretty good for just a shot in the dark for fish'in. http://www.lake-link.com/

Treeland resort on the Chipawa Flowage is a nice place, I've stayed there a few times. I think it has 7 lakes and three rivers, about 14,000 acres of water. They replace their boats new every year, and the cottages are new and clean and the people are all friendly up there. And there is a Casino close buy. It's up in the Northwoods in Sawyer county.

Minocqua and Woodruff are pretty yuppified, so bang for yer buck ain't gonna happen. The Hayward lakes area as suggested in the Rice Lake/Chetek post could be a better bet. I'm going to suggest driving up 53 a couple more hours into Minnesota and checking out Pelican Lake. Pine Acres resort was always good, Northland Lodge a bit more deluxe. There's over a dozen resorts there at Orr/Glendale. If you pull your own boat, you can scoot over to Vermillion or the boundary waters. If the ladies want the shopping/quaint community thing, Ely won't disappoint.

We go to Phillips every year to grouse hunt and stay at a place named Reece's Resort. Richard is a great guy and he has pretty nice cabins right on a lake. there's a place called Birch Island also. They have cabins as well, but we go there for the food! Plus, the St. Croix factory and store is just up the road!!!

So, any of 'em work out? Another suggestion due to the ladies and rooms would be close to Ashland and the Apostle islands area, had Walleye-n-eggs at a place in Ashland right across the road from Lake Superior. Amazing how it's south shore is warmer than it's north.

I live in New hampshire now but grew up in Pickerel where we had a resort on Pickerel Lake. There are numerous lakes in that area that have perch, crappie, walleye, northern, bass. Went to school in Crandon and there are some fine lakes for fishing also, Lake Metonga is nice. And the price isn't going to send you to the poor house. That area Forest and Langland county have some great fishing with alot of different lakes.
