Compact 1911?
 

Does anyone have a recomendation on a compact 1911? Something around a 3.5". I have a full size Taurus 1911 and it is sweet., but I don't believe Taurus makes a compact. I love the Springfield Loaded ultra compact but I understand these run about a grand. Was hoping to stay below $600.00. Might be wishing for to much.

I have a Colt Defender in that size that I like real well. If I was doing it again I would get a Kimber Ultra just because all my other 1911's are Kimber, but the Colt is near as good.

If you are going to get a quality 1911 you might have to up your price a little, or go with used. I think the cheapest Kimber Ultra you can get is about 750 to 800 and the Colt is near the same.

There are cheaper out there, but you will probably get what you pay for.

Just got back from Cabelas and put my hands on the Colt Defender and the Kimber Ultra and out of the two I like the Defender a lot, and it's about $50 cheaper, $850.00. Want to see a Springfield Loaded UltraCompact before I make a decision. I would think reliabilty and quality would be about equal on all these models, unless anyone knows different.

I have a compact 1911 that I like very much, it is called the New Agent by Colt. It is the same size as the Defender but it has a different sighting system. For what it is designed to do it does a good job. The sighting system takes a little getting used to, but once used to it, it is accurate.

Have you thought about the XD .45 Compact? Mine was about $600 OTD

Stitch, the XD 45 compact is one I have been thinking about too. I have a XD 40 Sub Compact and love it, probably the best weapon I own. That said I also have a full size 1911 and love the look and feel of it too. Decisions decisions!!!

I agree about getting good quality. There are a lot of good ones, but I am partial to Colt. Check out a Colt Officer's Model. I plan to add one to my collection at some point. Good luck with your search.

You really need to check out the Colt New Agent .45 ACP. They're going for around $750.00. Three inch barrel with trench sights. It's really a sweet pistol and carries well. Point of fact, it doesn't look much bigger than my Kel Tec PF9. Trust me when I say that the PF9 was forever retired when I got the New Agent.
