Default Please talk to me about Harley Quality

Good morning!
Just checking in because I'm currently shopping for a new ride. I've been riding fora year and currently have a used Honda Shadow (don't kill me)

I've been looking into some Harley bikes and Triumphs as well and am wondering about Harley quality. I realize many Harley riders are life time riders (not a newb like me) and I'm not looking for an argument.I'm just looking into what I'll be buying down the short stretch. I've been looking at the bikes and they are amazing. I'm going to test drive a soft tail soon.

The rap non-Harley riders often give is oil leaks (I've seen reviews from people who love their Harley bikes for 07 and 08 models saying they leak), uncomfortable rider w/ the 1200 Sportsters and that they're just not worth what you pay.

Please don't get the wrong idea. I just want to hear from Harley riders that have great experiences with their bikes and why they decided to buy them. Thanks, guys.

Have a good day.

Lots of oil leaks, will vibrate your fillings loose, break down all the time, and are WAY to loud.

Harleys are a POS. I'd stay with Honda. [&:]

oil leaks cut out in the 80s with the end of teh AMF era. Price? You have to realize harley starts with what most places consider a large cruiser, the 1200 sportster (and comfort is up to you - I love mine, after riding ninjas and cbrs). 1200 is right in line with other companies' 1200s, they just don't have a 500cc bike too. They hold their value and are a classic bike.

Only you can know if it's the right bike for you - go ride one. That's all it took for me.

Most people who buy one, always have one even if they add other bikes.(thats the riders not the garage queens)Thats been my experiance.

It all depends on how you take care of it, anything mechanical is going to have wear and tear. Consider the persons' motive when they bash other manufactures. As for me, I always was interested in Harleys, but the wallet kept me in the lower priced part of the market, but now I can afford to purchase and maintain a Harley and I'm very happy. Good luck.

If you want a cruiser (american styled) bike...buy a Harley. End of story

I just didn't want to buy one to learn on. I paid just over 3K and am feeling more comfortable riding so am looking into something a bit bigger.

Currently own 2 HD fatboy and a Road Glide, both are fine bikes the Fatboy has 45,000 problem free miles my 07 Rg has 13,000 problem free.
understand this HD is a different world a different bike it is not a sewing machine on wheels.
99% of the Bs you hear about HD comes from Honda owners pissed they bought a honda.
Also some buy a HD screw it up going cheap on the mods having them done by bubba down the road or doing them thier self with chaep aftermarket parts then blame HD when it does no go right.
Go down test ride a few HD's come on over to the light.

Sign at HD dealer
WE WILL WORK ON ANY HD1936 TO PRESENT

Sign at Honda
If it is 10 years old buy a new one we will not work on it

If Honda did not make HD look alikes they could not give their bigger bikes away as for the Gold wing they do not sell all that well. Must be a reason

The parts and repairs will cost ya the same as any metric bike, dont let that issue change your mind. As for leaks; I have a 2003 sporty and a 2001 Road King, NIETHER leak. What sold me was the feel and the sound at the age of 12 period. I would ride nothing else full time. I enjoy friends sport bikes once in a while but I'd never own one. Metric bikes are mostly plastic and feel cheap.A Harley isNOT.
