I have an '05 FLSTSC Springer Classic with 16" apes.  The riser clamps are tight, though the bars continue to slide back after a little bit of riding.  The apes are knurled at the clamp mounting spot as well.  Does any body have any suggestions on what I can do to keep them from slipping?  Any products that I can apply that will help them stick in place?  Thanks, Chad

The best/only thing that worked for me was using an automatic center-punch & putting lots of random dimples all over the contact surfaces of the bars. They haven't moved again. Should be able to pick up an automatic center punch at a store that sells quality tools. Or you can do it the old fashioned way with a hammer & center-punch.

A 16" ape puts a lot of leverage on the clamp, especially if you push the bike by holding the grips.  I used to have 16s and no matter how tight the clamp was, I always got movement with I moved the bike by holding the bars.  I changed my technique to putting most of the force on the frame and using the handlebars only to guide it.  But if they're moving while you're riding it's not a good thing.  Make sure you use an allen socket that you can tighten down with a ratchet, not just the typical "L" shaped allen wrench.

There is a way to tighten the clamp. I am pretty sure that if you crank down the front 2 bolts then crank down the back to. We did it on a buddys apes and he tried everything and it worked. A guy told us about it and he said that is how harley tightens down there handlebars. Give it a shot. If that don't work try it the other way the backs first then fronts. Bad memory can't remeber which way it is.
