I am looking a t getting a gear driven cam for my bike and leaving the jugs, head, valves alone for now (as I am not made of money.)
I have a fuel injected '04 88 Twin Cam and currently have a stage 1 setup including
[ul][*]SE air Cleaner[*]V&H True Duals headers[*]Bassani Reverse Megaphone exhaust with 2-1/2" baffles[*]PCIII USB[/ul]
This is my touring bike, but I like to rat around on it some - okay, more than some.
Furthermore, I would like to do a 95 kit on it someday (maybe - probably). Hopeful to find something with good power from about 2000-5500rpm. You know, obnoxious, yet reliable. Uh, yeah.
I definitely want to go with a gear drive setup, as it is not so power robbing, and there are no tensioner problems to worry about. However,I am not to familiar with the various cam options out there.
I would like to have a functional cam, given the setup I have now, and would really like it to work when I get my 95 kit too. Alot to ask, but one can alway hope there is one out there.
Suggestions?
Thanks for the input!

I would highly recommend andrews 50G gear drive cams, they are a nice mild low to mid range cam, with the proper pipes & race tuner you should be all over high 80's to low 90's in hp & torque , plus they work well with the 95" kit/heads = 100 + hp
Race Tuner is a must though, get someone who knows how to tune in bikes & get you a nearly flat air to fuel ratio line !!

50's work great in a lighter bike but they are not ideal for a heavy touring bike. Call Andrews and they will recommend the 21's or 26's for a heavy bike.
Headquarters HQ0034G, but before you decide for sure on gear better check your crank runout, Im bettin you got to much to not make noise, .003 is what Andrews says, but say it may make some noise .002 would be better, That cam is an excellent bolt in cam for stock 88 inch and when and if you decide to do more it will handle more compression and displacement very well. The woods 6 would also be a decent choice. Todd
One other thing, have you thought about converting to the new hydraulic tensioners, have not heard anyone that has had problems or not liked that setup and you have the added benefit of a larger oil pump with better scavenging and can handle runout alot better without noise, Todd
I have the HQ-0034 cams in my stock '04 EG with Rinehart TD's and SE a/c--I highly recommend them as a bolt in cam; and, they work well in 95" builds with more than stock compression, also. They have a slightly earlier intake close (4 degrees) than the Andrews 26 and Woods 6, so the torque comes on slightly earlier than with those cams.
Good luck with your research. Depending on the mileage of your bike, you may want to consider installing new lifters--HQ recommended using the HD stock "B" lifter--even the Service Manager at my HD store recommended them andNOT using either the SE lifters or adjustable pushrods--you can use your stock pushrods or consider the HQ pushrods--you can reuse the adjustables when you do the 95.

When thinking about gear drive cams the first consideration should be pinion shaft run-out. Do yourself a favor & check that BEFORE you buy anything.
just did the roller chain / hyd tensioner change on my 05 heritage 88. it's great. got new inner brgs, lifters, cams, pump, adjustable push rods. did it at 41.5k miles. it was a snap to change. a lot more forgiving if the runout is to much for gears.
oh ya, it's now got 45k on it and it's only 33 months old, yahooooooo.
