Hi, would anyone know what type of carb this is, all i know is that its a keihin and the number stamped on it AR40F BF15.I have this on my 76 sportster and bogs down at 80kms, will rejetting this fix this problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It's for sure an older model butterfly carb. It looks like a Flowmaster Screaming Eagle. The later versions of those are a lot better. If the throttle shaft is worn, toss it and find a later model or a better make of carb.

It's very similar to the stock carbs that came with the late 76's through ?? There are a few differences in it though. The choke appears to be a bit difference and the float bowl doesn't look the same either.

Understand that I am making a wild guess here, but from the number you listed it seems like the carb may be a 40mm sized venturi. A 40mm is used on a big twin. The Sportster uses a 38mm size carb.
A 40mm will cause a Sporty to bog down because it is too large. Perhaps someone installed this carb (taken from a shovelhead?) in hopes of hot rodding the Sportster up?
Just measure the bore diameter to see what you have. If it's a 40mm, sell it and find yourself a 38mm to replace it........pg

I have the same model on my 1970 xlch. It is a Screamin Eagle Keihin. It's listed as an upgrade for a 1340 cc HD. Someone put it on the bike before I had purchased it. It ran like crap on the low and midrange highway speeds, but the high end was incredible on my bike. I agree w/ PG that it is too much for the bike, but you can tune it to make it work. I am sure there are better suited carbs for the bike out there, but I do like mine on my Ironhead. I just hate the plastic inlet that leaks if it is cracked.

Do you have drag pipes? Mine does and I had to install 2" baffles to get it to react properly in the low and midrange. Doesn't sound as good, but runs much better now. I personally like this model on my bike. I found a new one recently, never installed, on ebay for $100.00. I plan to replace my current one w/ it soon. My enricher is worn out and it sometimes floods if I don't follow the starting tips properly that were listed in another thread . I have a PDF or a Word doc file for this Carb.
