My first post.
I have a 86 evo with 4 speed kickstart. I got the bike in 87 andits been a great bike for 20 years.
Last year at the Davenport swapmeet I raninto a stock set of pipes with stock slipons.. I paid 10 dollars for the whole works.
This year at the Woodstock swapmeet I found a Supertrapp 2 into one with a Supertrap muffler disk setup.I got a fair deal on this butthe collector wont fit because its for a 5 speed. Well thats too bad.

The stock set bolted up nice.So I drilled a 3/4 hole thrubaffel for more flow. Thisis a bit less loud thanmy other pipes. Also I was hopeing for more back pressure. It runs better. It has a EV13 cam and Jetted CV.

Ok my question,,,, ready? What does the crossover pipe for on the stock pipes do?
Will the motor run better leaving it on? Or off?

I understand it evens out the back pressuree and helps to scavange the exhaust. With out it it will change the torque curve. I can't verify it because I still use the crossover. Iwould have to try both on the same bike with the same set-up to know for sure. It was explained to me that it helps mostly in the low end. I know its not much help but I tried. BTW I live by Davenport maybe see you there.

Oh Yeah...... Welcome to the forum

Ditto, on the explanation that is what I understand also. To be honestI do not like the looks of the crossover pipes but I am to cheap to replace good pipes.

I don't like the look of the crossover either (makes is look like a sportster). But my bike runs so strong right now, I'm affraid to mess with it.

It could be my imagination but it does seem to Idle a bit better ,Its a lot quiter, and seemsstrong off idle.
Ive got a lot of miles on this bike in the last 20 years, Im on the 3rd speedo.

What I plan is to find a junked collector cut it up and make a 2into 1 using the stock pipes andthe 2 inch slipon Supertrapp. Then paint the whole works black. Photo of old setup is in first post(link). I dont think the paughtos? had enuf back pressure for me.

By the way Im a cheap bastard also, who else would never sell any of there bilkes?

Keep a eye out for the Cargo barge this year at Davenport.
