This is probably a stupid question to most but I need a bit of help..I have an 05 glide standard and want to change the oil on my bike and need to know where the oil drain plug is located. I don't want to accidentally drain the tranny. I have ordered a maint manual but want to do it this weekend and my manual won't be here for a few days. Any help that anyone could give me so I can do this myself.

It is the plug on the left side that screws in toward the back wheel. It takes a 5/8" socket. The one on the right side that screws upward is the tranny plug. Do not try to remove the pipe plug that you will find as a means to drain the oil.

I wanted to ask the same question. I ordered a manual for my 07 Sporty, but UPS lost it, meanwhile I need to change the oil.

I attached a pic, could someone please let me know if this is the oil drain plug? If not, where is it?

can anyone post a diagram for a sportster? I have an 2007 883C and am still having newbie trouble finding the plug

I don't know if things have changed on recent Sportster models, but on older ones there was no drain plug. Instead there was a hose on the right side of the bike. The bottom of the hose clamped onto a boss projecting from the frame. When the bottom of the hose is unclamped the oil drains. You'll get a quick answer if you post this on the Sportster forum.

We have an '07 883C too. If you look underneath it's the only black plug hanging down with a worm-drive clamp on it. Take off the clamp & pull the plug out of the drain hose. If you have an owner's manual look on page 84- there's a picture of the drain plug and its location. If you still can't find it let me know & I'll take a pic of ours & send it to you.
