Hi Guys
I need your help / opinion on a little something that troubled me yesterday.
I have a '07 96ci StreetBob, V&H BigShots Staggered, FuelPak and K&N filter. Yesterday me and a couple of the lads from work took a ride in to the fairly mountainous North Wales area for the afternoon. I was the only one one aHarley!!! Following one of the lads (on a '98 Fireblade) as he took off like a bat out of hell up this big hill sweeping right hander I hit the rev limiter. Typically the revs died but I immediately backed off and expected all to resume to normal within a few seconds, as has happened before on both of the two occasions I have previously hit it. Despite this post, I am not a hard rider - just out with the wrong crowd!!
But alas, no. Power was not restored. I de-clutched and coasted for a bit to see what happened. On tickover all was OK, but as I applied power again the motor began to 'hunt' - a handful of successful cycles and then a handful of nothing, follwed by a handful of successful cycles and then a handful of nothing.
I coasted to a halt. Blipped the throttle and all sounded OK, but on trying to move off it clearly wasn't right. I switched off and tried again (to re-boot things) and all was OK now....... Presumed this was normal operation / safety cut off following whatever I had done.
5 mins later, overtaking a truck, same thing happened, although I am 99% sure that I did not hit the limiter this time.... Coasted to a safe halt, turned off fora min or so, then back on and again all was good.
I rang the local dealer but they had not heard of this suggesting it may have been the Fuel pak (or ECU) going in to 'safe mode' as the engine management light was not illuminated.
I behaved for the rest of the day and she didn't miss a beat, even later on I gave her a bit of a 'go' (trying successfully not to approach the limiter) with no probs.
Anyone experienced this? Is it anything I should worry about, or as per the dealers suggestion do I need to get my mates to buy Harley and slow down!!!!.
Cheers in advance, guys
Al
**Post Note - Forgot to add that prior to all this I had inadvertently fueled up with BP's super unleaded, 99 octane - I don't suppose that this would have caused any issues, but just in case...
