Default Exhaust for 2008 Road King ?

I Like the sound of the Rinehart True Duals BUT are they the best bang for the buck? How much are Fishtails and who makes'em?

Do I HAVE TO HAVE the bike remapped? Do I HAVE TO HAVE the bigger air cleaner kit?

I've spoke to the Local HD dealer and they say YES and want $1900.00+ to do it.

Spoke to a local mech shop and he said that the pipes were designed to bolt on to the HD 96 engine with no other upgrades needed.

SO I spent 22K on this bike and all I want now is for it to SOUND like a HD should sound.

ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT!!!!!

The Rinehart true duals are the best sounding pipes I have heard and from what I understand the best performing.
Just my opinion.
If I had a Road King that is what I would go with no question.

Can't help you with the subjective part of "which pipes sound best" yours ears are different than everyone else's :-)

My understanding of the pipes/air filter/EFI issue is that you can change EITHER the pipes OR the Air Filter WITHOUT remapping, BUT if you do BOTH, remapping is needed.

I bought Sampson slip-ons via the web for $318 and the AN Big Sucker for $99, both of which I installed. Pipes took about 20 mins and the AN about the same to install.

Add $450 +/- for the H-D Race Tuner and $300 +/- for the Dyno, should bring you to $1250 +/- what with tax and shipping, etc.

Groutb:
Your statement about hearing being different is somewhat correct. But the other info is not.
If you change an air cleaner to allow more air in, then you should change the exhaust to allow more air out. More air in allows for cooling the combustion, which means a larger dose of fuel to burn. If that extra combustion cannot escape properly it will work but not to the full potential.
IMHO it is futile and a waste of money to do one without the other. When you do both a SERT or re-map is in order to avoid your engine running lean.

Don;
Spend the money and do it right the first time.
Rinehart true duals are about a grand installed. Then get the SERT about $600.00 installed with the SE1 kit you are about right. That should include a DYNO.

I made the mistake of rushing into pipes because my buddies were giving me a bad time. So I got Longshots (Wrong ones) an SE1 kit and a download.
The mufflers on my brand new pipes blued in about 1000 miles for 2 reasons. 1 they did not have heat shields on the mufflers just chrome plating and 2 the download was not correct for the set up.
So I ended up buying a new set of mufflers and a SERT. In a nut shell I through away about $500.00
So don't be in a rush and don't let anyone tell you not to get a Tuner. Once you have the tuner you can do pretty much anything you want to the engine. Such as Heads, Cams etc.
I really like the Rineharts sound etc.
