Statistics don't lie. Liers do statistics. How many bikers died with a carrot in their month going down the road after taking viagra? ? ? And how many were over 40? ? ?

will be 67 in a couple of days now I hope I make it as I'm going to ride today as I do almost every day. been riding for almost 50 years now and yes I have fell off a couple of times , raced motocross till I was 55 then got all busted up there and had to quit so I do know what falling will do seems like there are a lot of older +40 riders on this forum so we all arn't part of the stat. Makes no difference how old you are, when on a motor you have ride in a defensive mode all the time, In 37 years as a Tx peace officer I worked several hundred accidents where it was car vs motor, and the standard answer by the driver of the car was I didn't see him and the standard answer of the motor rider was I had the right of way.( that is if they were able to talk)

1. The average age of the population is rising. 2. There are many people buying motorcycles who have either never ridden, or not ridden for years. (and I would add to that ...there's lots who say they "haven't ridden in years" who have NEVER ridden) 3. The majority of accidents still involve those who have little or no riding experience.....it has always been that way. It's just that due to the aging population, there are more older inexperienced riders out there than there has ever been.

Riding off and on since 1967. Now over 60. No dispute with "liars figure" argument. However, I have noticed there are very few pro athletes still competing that are my age. While I don't notice any slowing of my reflexes, the laws of nature tell me they can't be as fast now as they were in say, 1978. Anyone who thinks they can do the same things physically at 60+ they could do in their 20's and 30's must be marked down in the optimist column. Today I take fewer chances than I used to and rely on my brain, such that it is, more than my brawn to get me through the day.

What the stat did not say that over 50 % of the fatalities were due to a rider going off the road way at a curve. Single bike accident. No cagers involved. The typical rider was 30 to 50 not over 50. Speeding and in my own opinion no skills to counter steer when they were going into the curve hot.

Now, the important thing here is not to become a fatality. Park your wheelchair properly before mounting your Harley...

Whilst on subject of useless statistics an orthopaedic surgon once told me there were more accidents and broken bones from people falling off horses in a year, however whilst there were fewer motorcycle accidents / incidents there were more fatalities in the same time period. Just thought I would throw that one into the mix.......

Years ago was involved with helmet repeal in Maine.United Bikers of Maine met with Legislators in Capitol. We listened to their reasons and statistics to keep the law, then we unleashed with all the correct and the most up to date info given by a Dr.It was rather humbling to see the looks on the legislators faces. If you do not get involved, and our leaders hope you don,t,then the snow jobs will fly through and the zealots will have their way.
