I was wondering if anyone else noticed this or not? I changed the oil in my primary last week and it took almost a quart and a half to fill it just below the spring. I never thought anything about it but I recenty saw in my owner's manual it says it should take around 32 ounces. I put 32 ounces in and it isn't even visible in the bottom yet. It took another half-quart to get it up to the proper level. 48 ounces.

It doesn't need to go up to the spring.  It just needs be touching the bottom of the clutch plates.  A 1.5 quarts is too much.

I did the same thing in my Road King yesterday, I got on line to see if any one else was having the same problem and here was your post, I checked the amount of oil that I drained out it was 40oz.
I put 40oz back and could just barely see it at the bottom of the clutch plates.

Just to the basket not the springs important not to over fill.
The amount it holds and the change amonut are different so it is possable that if you were leaned over a bit when you drained it you got more than normal out.
I agree with measuring what I take out. I still check it as I fill it but Doing this confims I have lost none sence last change.

I may have had it leaning a little past upright towards the left side. It drained for at least an hour while I was doing other stuff. I wanted to make sure I got everything out. My level is about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch below the spring. Like I said, you could not even see the level with a bright light after a quart. It seems to be working great. No slipping or excessive grabbing, it just kind of freaked me out.

this is were a jack comes in handy bike is level as it should be. Please do not get all caught up in getting every last drop out. Changes take all of that in to consideration.
The primary should be just to the basket with bike level.
the jack will also help with oil change and make your life so much easyer. comes in handy when you want to get the bikes father out of the way in the garage too you can slide them right over next to the wall or coner. Arrow shows level cover is off for better view

On my '06,The owners manual calls out for 32 oz. or to the bottom of the clutch spring.
I fill mine up to the spring which is another 6-8 oz.

I did order a wheel-chock yesterday from Harbor-Freight and am planning on buying a jack as soon as I find a reasonably priced one that isn't made like crap. A buddy of mine just bought the Harley jack last week. He paid well over $300 for it. I have my sights set on a lift some day so I don't want to spend too much on a jack right now. Thanks for the feedback to everyone on this.
At least the wheel-chock will be in before I need to service the bike again!

I've read several posts on this forum where guys are talking about the Sears lift. Must be a good one. How much did you pay for it?
