View Full Version : The ignorance of those who do not ride

Fletch19

I was at a restaurant last night and received a call from a associate that inquired how I was doing and then proceeded to mention to me that the forecast for the next day was rain. Since he was not a rider I took it that he did not know better and I didn't make an issue that he had irritated me with this information and that I thought he was just player hating. How do my fellow riders feel when a four wheeler brings this into a conversation?

DannyZ71

There's some biker taboo against mentioning rain in a phone call??? Seriously, you're upset about this? Maybe he thought he'd let you know in case you hadn't heard. I don't really understand what the issue is or why you posted.

PS: We really need to get out of this biker vs. cager mentality.Unless you ride your bike, 24/7 and 364, you're a cager sometimes too.

Wow I guess if I want to be a "real biker" I've gotta quit letting people talk to me about the weather. I'll have to add this one to my files.

If it wasn't for the "Geeez it's gonna rain (snow, sleet whatever) again" subject. No one would ever communicate. Take it easy dude. The weather is a subject we can all relate to even if your not a motorcycle owner. Now if the Fkr said right after "its' gonna rain" - I guess you are gonna get wet on your scooter then he started laughing hysterically and then repeated it with a louder voice so everyone in the restuarant can hear it. Then I would sayyou have a right to be ticked off.

It wouldn't have bothered me at all.Getting caught in the rain is not even an issue.Knowing it is going to rain is still not an issue.

Why answer a call while in a restaurant in first place? Unless you're waiting on the organ transplant, that call can wait until after you have eaten. And had you not taken the call, then you wouldn't have any reason to be upset. Just my 2 cents.

Cell Phone?

"Real Bikers" don't carry cell phones, especially while dining in a restaurant.

Yeah, man. Biker up! Don't let no frickin' "associate" tell you about the frickin' weather while you are at a "restaurant"...on your "cell phone" no less. You better take this guy to task. Tell him that you posted about it on an online forum. That'll teach that cager phuq not to make small talk with a true biker!

Oh hi John, yes that will be fine. Ok and you too. What the... CLICK!

Along the same lines the thing that I hate is when someone says you ride, did I ever tell you about the guy I know that on his motorcycle got his head cut off and died a painful death. For some reason they think I want to hear about that.

what irritates me more than somebody telling me about rian or another motorcycle wreck , is trying to eat diner in a resturant and the person setting behind me is blabbing on the cell phone. for what ever reason they think they need to talk loud enough for the whole resturant to hear ,or some kid lokking over the back of the booth at you with a big ole wad of snot hanging out of there nose. I think resturants should have cell phone and kid free dining avalible.

Guys at work do this all the time to me. The other day my coworker said your gonna get wet this afternoon on the way home. Well it never rained at all, looked like rain and the wife and I even went for a 30 mile ride when I got home.

Now the other evening I was at the fire house with a couple other guys shooting the sh*t and the town clerk came out to go home.
She drives a toyota prius and I have talked with her before about her fuel mileage and stuff, wife was looking at getting a prius, she drives 75 miles one way to work.
Well my electra glide is parked beside her car and she says whos bike? I said its mine, she then asked what gas mileage do you get? I said I checked it earlier today and was 43 she smiled reel big and said smugly, Im getting better then you!
Well without an hesitation at all I respond back, but im having more fun then you!
She frowned jumped in her car and took off. The other guys were laughing their asses off.

Yanno, I've got a real problem with anyone calling themselves a man when they feel the need to beat on a woman...

Joking or not, I really dont appreciate reading that type of crap, because if you are such a big bad ass, then you shouldnt need to hit someone....because they should already know how bad ass you are...

You want to be a pansy ass and beat on a woman, that's your business..... but if you happen to do it in my presence...well....let's just say someone would go for a ride in an ambulance...and someone would most likely be wearing handcuffs...

I think resturants should have cell phone and kid free dining available. I have been known to ask the person seating us to put us in a non-kid zone. A couple have kind of looked at me funny but I tell them I don't want to be near any kids that might act up and ruin my dinner. A couple of times a waitress has tried to seat us near kids and I've flat told her no, we won't sit there because of the kids.

Don't get me wrong. I have 4 grown kids and 13 grandkids. But when our kids were growing up, they knew better than to act out in public at a restaurant or anywhere. And our grandkids also know that isn't tolerated by us. I have never had to get on their case real bad in public. When they start to act up a little, I just look at them and say, "Hey, you're in public, you know how to act rightand you better do it now." Never had to say it twice at same place.

My lady friend had some plans to come visit me couple of weekends ago, she had to ride 120 miles to meet me and I was going to ride back with her for a party. She calls on Thursday and says its gonna rain Sat, Are we still doing this? I told her I paid extra for the option for my bike to run in the rain, I'm riding to the party! So she comes on her bike on Fri... We leave Sat to go to the party - I sneak my full face in my bag, put on chaps and leather jacket and we hit the road. It starts raining so we pull over - While shes putting her Frog Togs on over her wet clothes I bust out the full face - the look on her face was priceless. I give her credit though, for her first time riding it the rain she did real good and didn't complain at all, at least not to me.

Well, frankly, I don't give a damn.
I avoid riding in rain if I can, but if I feel like riding and can't wait and it's raining... to hell with the rain, I ride all the same.
I usually don't even bother with a rainsuit. The heat from the engine and the air from riding will keep me dry :D
I try to avoid it in town, during rush hour, though. Too many drivers seem to go blind AND imbecile with rain.

What really burns me up is the arm chair biker. If the weather is not just the right way they can't ride. And if they do go riding it's only to the bar or restaurant to sit and talk about riding. Life is to short to only talk about what you want to do. So what if the bike gets dirty it can be wash one day. But not today because everyday is a riding day. Go see the world or just the other side of your state. Visit some biker events they have one every week till the end of fall.
