A lot of it depends on how much you want to spend, I have a 02 Fatboy, with progressive air ride shocks with compressor, about $1,200, I'm very happy with the results, on my girlfriends 07 night train I just used  the white brothers set up it's only about $100.00, and you just need a press to take the shock apart, when I did her bike it took about 3 hrs including going to my buddies shop to use his press, as far front, I'm tol white brothers or progressive are the way to go, hope I helped,  latr, Mark

Thank you for your advice mark. I know air shocks are the best way to go but im not sure i wont to spend 1,200 on them. I am getting another bike in august and im going to put air shock on it. My girlfriend is probley going to ride my custom. I think i am going to go with progressive. Thanks agian for your help. I will keep you posted on which way i go.

Thanks, David

been out of the loop for a while, not really up on softail forks.but i had an 04 super glide,i loosened the tripple trees, slid the fork tubes up 1" retightened, with the chrome top fork nut and chrome tubes it was not that noticeable at all,and still had stock ride.that 1" made a big difference,i have a lot of curvy roads here ended up putting them back to stock position,$$$$ spent none!                      left the shorter shocks on!
