Default Primary case pressure??

Does the primary case have a vent? Looked through my manual and didnt find anything on this. Just wondered if it could build some pressure if not vented. THX.

No, the primary is a simple splash oil lube system. No pumps no pressure. The chain & clutch hub & motor sprocket rolling through the oil splashes the whole thing. Low tech.

Me thinks that there has to be some way for heat expansion to relieve itself.

yeah there is the small amout of pressure caused by the oil expanding ever so slightly is taken up by the huge by comparrison volume of air which is far more compressable than the oil or metal in there. The engine cases needs breathers due to the blow past and heat generated by the pistons and the gear box needs one due to the small air gap and the heat generated byt the gear box itself. Plus on dynas and tourers the enhine oil is in a pan buitl under the box so gets even more heat from there as well.

Sometimes it's a bitch to get an answer to a simple question. The venting is done through the hole in the tranny primary shaft where the clutch pushrod sits. From there it vents out of the tranny vent on top.

Ron gets the apple today. good answer, heating up that much air to 200+ degrees would certainly build enough pressure to cause all kinds of leaks.
