Welcome to the forum. Know anything about making/modifying into a quick release for the tour pack on a 92 FLTC ?

Welcome! I ride a RG. I also have a detachable tour pack with lights. I wired it so it has running lights, brake lights and turn signals on the tour pack. I like having the extra lighting visibility on the tour pack.

I'm not a pro mechanic, so I am not familiar with your '92, but I can tell you that you would need to remove the TP and the permanent mtg. bracket, which is u-shaped, and replace it with a detachable one from the parts catalog, along with the detachable mounting kit appropriate for your model and year (which I'm assuming is available w/o looking at the catalog). The detachable kit mounts permanently to your frame at the rear fender. It will require relocating the antenna, and probably the license plate bracket, since the plate is vertical it doesn't provide enough clearance for the Tour-Pak's newly installed detachable system. Then the other thing you would need to do is splice your electrical cables which run up above the rear fender and install Deutsch or similar connectors, a male and a female for each cable, so that you can unplug the wiring when you remove the TP from the bike. There are some other details but that's the gist of it. I built a simple wooden jig out of wood to hold the Tour-Pak when it's stored off the bike. Since Road Glides don't come with TP's, I needed to do this in order to make mine as useful as an Ultra, which I was used to riding and loved. I have attached a picture of my Ultra below. The advantage of removing the TP is your bike will feel like a COMPLETELY different ride w/o it, as you are removing a lot of weight off the rear. You can also change the configuration with a detachable sissy bar (or not) and now you can make it look like a Street Glide...(watch out, because then you will want a lowered windshield and louder pipes, a stage I or II, a blacked out paintjob and you will spend ALL YOUR MONEY! Take it from someone who has already had the disease...) My next project is to take apart the front end and give it a black out treatment..! Somebody stop me! Thumbnail Image

What a small world! Thanks for writing, it means a lot. I wish I had known you 3 years ago! I was on my to Litchfield to visit a friend's family when I went off the on-ramp to I-55 at the Sangamon exit which is where Halls is located. My back tire broke loose on oily, wet pavement after a rainshower, and the bike and I went off the road into a ditch. Paramedics took me away. It was quite a scene. August 5, 2005. Was heading south towards Florida via Arkansas. Here is a photo of my old bike with my wife, Lisa. Thumbnail Image
