OK I want to get your opinion before I taer into my bike. Its a 95 evo bigtwin with roughly 30k on it. It has a tick in the topend, which gets louder when its cold and I get on it hard.. the noise seems to be comming from the front cylinder towards the rear of the jugg ( closer to the carb )

I bought the bike online last spring am have no clue whats been done to it, Im pretty sure the guy I got it from only had it cause it was a ego boost for him. I do know it has andrews ez install pushrods and a s&s carb.. I have also heard the tappets are known for failure. Would a tappet make the noise in the rocker box, or could it be a valve spring?

You said it gets louder when it is cold and you get on it hard? Really should wait till it is hot before getting on it hard. 15-20 minutes for all the engine to get hot.

My bike ticks at the top end. I have rollers rockers, you might also. I think they are noiser. Big cam could cause valves ticking when they close. You might have some good stuff in the engine.

Start by adjusting the valves and give the engine a little time to warm up.

Did you by chance just put quieter pipes on?

When I did all I could hear was tickety tickety and air sucking in the carb.  Looked into it and all was normal.

Louder pipes went back on this spring and took care of the problem!
