Sorry guys, but I'm sure this will beat the dead horse one more time with this post..... I did do a search and found some info, but still leaves me unsure. Fuel Pak from V&H or a Stage 1 download? I have a new 08 Crossbones that I love and I just put the SE air cleaner with a modified set of Long Shots from a metric I used to have. I only used the mufflers w/baffles as slip-ons to the stock head pipes and I wrapped them with pipe wrap. The stealership wants about 250 for the the download and labor, and I found the Fuel Pak for 207, obvious no-brainer here cost wise.... Any thoughts on performance, problems or heat issues? Do I still need the stage 1? Thanks

Id say go with the fuel pak. It will give you the opportunity to make your engine run much cooler, and more efficiently than the download. Chris

The HD Download sucks. It was a waste of money. Get the SERT or PCIII.

Some food for thought. The FuelPak utilizes the O2 sensors therefore making the system a closed loop response the way it was designed on the later bikes. The PCIII does not use them and bypasses them and the only way to get it right is to dyno tune the bike with the PCIII which is big bucks. The HD Download seems like a waste of money, and probably is by itself because it only richens the mixture somewhat but keeps the bike lean and EPA complaint. Now the HD download and a FuelPak to tweak the settings so that the bike is not too lean probably is the best. Also if the FuelPak goes bellyup while on a trip, the HD download would at least keep the bike rich enough not to damage the engine, but without it you may have a problem. But the bike is full of electronics so that may not be an overriding issue.

Call nightrider and get the XIED's for 100.00 they plug in to your senors and takes about 10 minutes. And it will take the fuel down to 13.7-8, and with a K&N setup and mufflers or pipes your good to go.Mario

Hey, I bought my FuelPak for $207 too. Gotta love ebay! Anyway, I've had mine installed for about 2 weeks and love it. Tuning it was easy. The hardest part was finding a place for it to fit under the seat so the seat didn't stick up.

Why not both, the stage 1 download will raise your rpm limit but it will not do much for makeing the bike run richer. That is where the Fuel Pack or Power Commander come in. By the time you spend money on the download and the fuel pack you can by a SERT for cheeper and do everything without mounting any external boxes.

I bought my power commander from FuelMoto, they set the map according to the bike, exhaust and a/c. no dyno needed. oh, I'm sure I could 'squeeze' another 1/2 hp or 1 more foot pounds of torque out of her with a dyno - but WHY??? I'm not going to a fire and it's not a race. I agree with mikef... the download is a waste of money when there are several fuel managment systems on the market for our bikes.

Get a SERT now or end up buying one later after you have thrown away other moneys. I know this from experience. A SERT is about 600.00 with installation and that should include Dyno.

Fuel management isn't needed with stage 1. The bike will run fine. You're not going to melt anything. Do you guys have any idea what kind of testing these engines go through before even entering the market? Yes, both destructive and non destructive tests. If you're stuck in traffic and she's runnin hot, shut her down and have a drink with the $600 you'd save on a SERT. I'm running stock ECU with a set of Cobra pipes and stage 1 A/C and I have no problems whatsoever. No popping, no nothing. Occasional backfire when I really get on it but that adds character This is my experience though. If you put on a short set of straight pipes with no baffles, it's gonna pop. I think fuel management is overkill with stage 1. You start puttin hot cams, headwork, big bore kits, etc......well then you need a tuner.
