Starting July 1 if you don't have your motorcycle endorsment you will have to complete a
Rider Saftey Class to get an endoesment. After putting off taking the riding part of the test I went wensday and finally got mine. I think this will be a good law. There might be a few people out there that know how to ride but don't have their endorsment but I think most new endorsments will be a new rider. I have been riding 45 years and I still want to take the class.By the way my state is Florida. Need to watch out for the Blue Hairs down here.

Interesting. Where did you find this out? And did it only apply to FL or was it something that was going elsewhere also?

The lady that gave me my test said I was the 20th test that day because every one was trying to beat the deadline. She only said Florida don't know about other states.

I think it is only Fl at this point but unfortunately I have worked with literally hundreds of riders in the last 3 years who went and passed the MSF course and still cannot ride a motorcycle in a figure eight in an empty parking lot. I often wonder how some of them pass the final day testing. I have actually had riders who could not put their feet onthe pegs and ride around on a Rebl 250 after working with them for over an hour and they actually did have their endorsement from MSF. How can that be????? By the way the reason they came to me was that they bought a bike tried to ride it, either had an accident or just got scared and realized they were not yet ready for street riding on their own yet.

I've always felt it was too easy to get a drivers license for either a car or a motorcycle.  So in general I think it's a good idea.  I would like to see something similar for car drivers.  Face it, the typical driving test where you drive at less than 15 miles an hour and spend more time demonstrating your ability to parallel park than anything else is a joke.

They have simulators for pilots which they have to test out on from time to time.  Why not have them for drivers so they can be exposed to a variety of driving situations.

This is a new law for Florida. On top of having to take the course if you don't have your endorsement by July 1st you also will have to have the motorcycle endoresment to register a motorcycle.

The new "wheelie" law as they are calling it goes into affect October 1st.

Good law. Now match that with teaching cage drivers to watch for bikes, and we won't have to use stupid colors, reflectors, flashing lights, loud pipes, and loud horns.

Blue Hairs also known as Q Tips since the top of their white haired head is all you can see over the steering wheel....avoid at all costs....with the A/C cranked up and the windows sealed tight...and Ole Blue Eyes on the stereo...they neither see nor hear a bike....this speices is not unique to FL, but is found in large quanities in the southern part of the state where I live...you'll need a few beers after your first close encounter with them...lots of luck on your visit....

Just another form of taxation. It doesn't make better riders.

There is a lot of validity, whether young or old, bike, car, truck or whatever, to take a skills test.

I know that my reflexes are not as quick as they were 30 years ago, but 30 years of experience is worth a lot.

I really would like to see once someone reaches a certain age, or has had XX amount of moving violations or accidents, to have to take a skills refresher course/test to keep their license. I don't want to single out the octogenarian, but I think you get my point.

No it doesn't but it is a step in the right direction. The only thing that make better riders is seat time.

They told me the same thing back in Dec when I had my Hawaii license transfered over to FL. I already have an MSF course, so no big deal. Got to love those blue hairs driving 30 in a 45 or 50 in a 65.

I think we should go one step further.  Everyone should be forced to take a reaction / dexterity test on a regular basis to get any kind of driving license.  If you can be thrown in jail for 0.08 because of deminished capacity for the safety of the public they should establish a minimum capacity.  Don't tell me booze slows reaction time without establishing a minimum or baseline acceptable reaction time.

Test reaction time and ability to turn you head far enough to look.  Test ability to multi-task.  Test ability to recognize object close/far/close again to make sure the eyes and brain work together.  Test judgement under stressful conditions.

I'm not throwing down on older folks.  God willing we will all be older some day.  Too many Baby Boomers are buying bikes who shouldn't be.  Also, billions of dollars worth of MOOD ENHANCERs are being used out there.  Tougher motorcycle training is a good start.

I took the rider's edge class last year and glad I did.  I hadn't ridden since before I was married and a father, so my mindset has changed considerably from when I'd just ride and do whatever.  I'm a helluva lot more cautious than I was.  Still like riding fast, just looking out for the other butthole much more than I used to.

The only thing is there should be the same kind of required course for car drivers too.  First lesson being put down the g#ddamn cell phone and pay attention.

Was riding for well over 30 years before I got my Motorcycle Endorsement and I did it by taking the MSF course.  I was surprised - went into the MSF course a little skeptical and left a better rider after 30 plus years.  I actually learned a thing or two in the course and reinforced other positive things I was doing.  Should be a move in the right direction in Florida and I would hope other states follow.

That is one good looking bike!
