Posted this in the General section, now trying here. When I went to see the progress of my new bike I noticed 2 rubber plugs on the top of the guard. I was then told that when removed there will be 2 holes in the guard. As I ride solo a lot I am wondering if any other Fatboy owner has come up with a fix.

I could just leave the ugly rubber grommets where they are and need to make a decision before the rear wheel gets put back on.
I realise they are there to protect the paint. Why not put the protectors on the seat - not the guard??????????
I can get chrome plugs that may fit in there for when I ride solo. Think that will look s..t.
I may be able to paint these plugs the same colour as the guard, bit think it will rub off. Think that will look a little less s..t.
I can not find a chrome/rubber tail piece extension that use to be available on earlier models, for a 2008 model.

Would really love your help and advice on this.

Many Thanks

Jeff

Isn't that what leather fender bibs are for?

Thanks for the link. They do not have an '08 FLSTF available, plus you need a Mustang seat. The pillion on this model is quick release and would need a exact fittting part. I really appreciate your interest, just would love to hear from any Fatboy owner who has actually "fixed" this.

Again thank you.

Jeff

If It Stands Out To Much For You,, Just Change The Fender To One That Don't Have The Holes Like An 03 or 04 mod.
OR Call Mustand And Have A Bib Made Up

An '03 will not fit as this has an 8 inch rear tyre and also it is an Anniversary colour.

Thaks

You can use the nuts like the pinion seat uses in place of the rubber plugs and then put some nice chrome bolts in them. I know they make a bib for my 07 and i thought i tis the same as 08. 52038-08

Fits '07-later FLSTF models equipped with Original Equipment rider seat.

Here is a libnk to TimberWolf Leather.  they make bibs that will fit your ride.  Quality is EXCELENT, and special orders are not a problem..I just bought the second one for the wifes Deluxe, Second only because we changed trhe paint, and she wanted something to match better than the first one..

Thanks to all for your excellent help. I now have to work out what to do. Still can not understand why HD make a quick release pillion and then leave ugly blobs of rubber on the guard when they could have used the paint protection on the removable seat, not the guard. A no brainer to me.

Many thanks to all

Harley has one just for the 08 FB and it matches the seat
I picked one in February. The part # is 52038-08. Add some chrome acorn nuts at the solo seat and you re good to go. It cost $69.00.

Thanks I have looked at it but the leather section is too wide, only for my taste. I am looking for something like in the attachments. Feel sure HD will do something soon as I can not be the only 2008 owner who can not believe in thus short sighted approach to having a detachable pillion that is ridiculously ugly.

Many Thanks

That is odd.  My '06 FLSTI came with a stock quick release pillion, but when removed, there's just the thumbscrew hole in the fender, not those other two holes.  The pillion even had a little chrome plug to put in the thumbscrew hole when solo.

As it should. Do you have screws that you remove under the leather flap of the seat that go into the frame, or do you have the 2 hideous front seat fasteners above the rear guard, behind the rear seat, for the world to see? What were they thinking? Lets make a quick release pillion that will help the owners ride solo if they want, but lets drill 2 holes in the guard and put rubber plugs in them and leave exposed the ugly front seat fateners for a good solo look!!!!

This company really bemuses me. This is my 3rd Fatboy and I never thought to check if the solo look would be applicable, as the '98 & '03 transformed to the solo look, perfectly.

IF IT AIN'T BROKE - DON'T FIX IT
