Default S&S Shorty "E" or Mikuni

Lookin at upgrading my stock CV carb to either S&S or Mukuni. Mybike is a stock 02 FLHTC with K&N AC and V&H ovals. Just lookin for advice on either. What about purchasing any one have better service?

My past experience with both is S&S is simpler and more shops havepeople that can help you if you need it, Mikuni is a little more complicated and sometimes has a stronger spring to overcome to twist but will usually carburate a little cleaner with maybe a hair more power. Both in my dealings have been better than the CV. As far as service look in the mirror you are the new service guy for your new carb!

Go with the S&S.....easier to dial in and the difference in performance over a mikuni seems to be personal preference....I'll take a paid for S&S over a GIFT of a mikuni any day.

I personally would keep the CV if i had your bike, or have Bob Wood work some mojo with your OE carb.

I dont care for the S$S carbs, but they are popular (though I have no friends that run them).

The Mik for me is easy to tune and very forgiving.

If your not planning on moding your bike any more bolting on a aftermarket carb will NOT make any more power over the CV........I have the dyno sheets to prove it.

If your planning on a cam change or a BB kit then it could be a consideration then, but on a bagger I think the CV is hard to beat.

Mikuni's are easier to tune and once they are set you leave it alone. My experience with S&S is you always have to tinker with it. Bob Woods can make your stock CV perform.

Also check to see what Air Cleaners are available for each , that may play a factor in your choice!

If you are a good tuner run the S&S.I know a lot of people who have run them for thousands of trouble free miles. But you have to spend some time on them to get them right. The Mikunis seem to work better on near stock bikes(They dont like cams with long durations)
