Default question on chrome kit installation

I am considering the hd chrome kit to my bike, a 07 Street bob. feel like the contrast of those chrome parts against the black engine block of the street bob will look good and be a good step toward customization and it's a bike that is a keeper for me, I will own and ride it for a long time. The chrome kit is HD part # 16327-06. It has primary driver cover, cam cover, transmission covers, etc. Should I be able to install this kit with a reasonable of difficulty. I am pretty mechanically inclined, done lots of work on cars over the years over the years. One thing to add, I may add this kit when I put on a set of vance and hines mufflers (not slip ons), so the exhaust could be take off first and new pipes and PC III added after the engine/transmission chrome is added. I know a dealer would want an arm and leg to install the chrome kit due to the number of components to replace. Also, will I have to train all the fluids to accomplish this. Thanks in advance for guidance, opinions and info from anyone with experience doing these type of mods.

Thanks,

jimd4au

Default RE: question on chrome kit installation

drain fluids, take off old covers, put new ones on, torque bolts to specs and in proper sequence...have some beer

buy a service manual before attempting

also may want to get some chrome strut covers as well to match things up....(standard on 06)

Default RE: question on chrome kit installation

Look around at your local hardware stores. Some Ace hardwares, at least here on the west coast, have an extensive fastener selection including chrome. Might be cheaper than the HD kit. I've changed out about half of mine with chrome. When you get them on and torqued, with loctite, but a little dab of clear nail polish in the hole. When you tighten it you always flake off a little chrome. The nail polish will keep it from rusting. May not be a problem where you are but it sure is here on the Oregon coast. Also you can't reach some of the bolts with the exhaust pipes on. Make sure you have those bolts on hand when you change out the exhaust. Good luck.

Ride Safe.
