I'm having a 103" inch stage II kit put on my street bob. The dealer says I can either download a new map from Harley or install a race-tuner and have it dyno'd. The simple download is like 150/200 and the race-tuner plus dyno is around 700/800 altogether. I know that the race tuner will allow future changes to the motor, etc, while the download is just a one time shot. I'm really only concerned about how the bike will run after the kit is installed; I don't plan on doing any other mods.

I would love to hear about people's experience on this issue. Thanks.

Unless you are doing serious headwork and aggressive cams, an off-the-shelf map downloaded to your ECU will work just fine. Maps for well-known configurations like a cube boost from 96" to 103" have been developed and well tested. A SERT is probably overkill in this case.

It will work just fine with the canned map. I would look into the tuning device to insure the bike is running properly in all areas. Startup,throttle response, acceleration etc and that it is not running to lean. With aproperly tuned bike you will get the most out of the engine mods. Its not all about HP and TQ numbers. The hardest part of using SERT is finding someone that knows what they are doing. Good Luck you will enjoy the 103 either way it rocks.

I had the 103" STage II done on my 2008 Street Bob before it ever left the dealer. Included the downloaded map, something you won't be able to do with a PCIII alone. I also had Rush slip-ons installed at the same time. One advantage to getting the map over using a PCIII, is the map bumps the rev limiter up from 5500 to 6200 RPMs. About a month after running the bike and having it fully broken in, during a long day of riding, I got stuck in traffic in about 85-90 degree heat and the bike began to "ping". I bought a PCIII from fuel moto the next day. Jamie had a map for my set-up and it came pre-loaded. Easy to install; if you had H-D load thestage II map, it'seasy to go back to stock if you're worried about warrenty issues.

Because I'm always sceptical of canned solutions, I had the dealer do a Dyno run. Power curve was great, very flat. 98 ft lbs tourqe.

Bottom line, I'd recommend getting the HD map, then getting a PCIII after from fuel moto to richen up the fuel mixture so the bike runs right. Install it yourself. Easy to do. This will be cheaper in the long run than going with the SERT and having to pay the Dyno time.

just a correction there usmc the pc111 does have a rev extender that goes to 6,200 and like you they done the download on mine when they did the conversion , I also found the bike to be running way lean. won a power commander from fuel moto on ebay on sunday , called jamie monday to make sure I had got them all the info and he said yep all ready tuned and in the mail . I got it 2 days later . after an hour of cussing and one bloody finger I had it installed and all is good . props to fuel moto jamie is da man .

thanks for all the great feedback guys. I think I'll just go with the download map, break the bike in for 500 miles and see how it rides. If it sucks, I can always make life more complicated later and go for the SERT and the dyno tune. appreciate all your help.
