I own an 84 late model/fxst/first year of the softail and evo engine. Has wet clutches and a four speed tranny. I want to convert it to a five speed. Does anyone out there know if any other year five speed will fit onto my bike.or any way at all to get a 5 speed setup in my cases.
Any infomation truly appreciated. Thanks and ride safe. You can also call me at 5308451335/dave

Dave,
OK, got to get my typing game going here......................
You can put any aftermarket/h-d 5 speed in your bike that will fit an Evo softail. You will need a few things though, a new tranny mounting plate, a new starter from a late model to eliminate the remote mounted solenoid (sp?), a new innner primary from a 5 speed Evo softail, a new clutch assembly from a 5-speed evo softail, a new outer primary from a softail that matches the year of you clutch, they changed the basket size somehwere in there and the earlier outers wont clear the clutch basket. The last thing you will have to change is the oil bag, yes the oil bag, the reason why is the drain location on the early softail's wont clear the late model starter body, it will fit, but is a pain to get in and will eventually rub a whole. I know from experience. I hope this help, if you got anymore questions shoot me a PM.

i have a late 1984 fxsb shovelhead. the engine has "evo" parts in it. my transmission is a 4 speed. i bought a chrome tranny kick cover and once i had it open i saw that i had no "oil slinger". does anyone have knowledge about the "shovel to evo" transformation?
