Can someone tell me what are the major differences between the Electra Glides and Road Glides? Last weekend I started looking at the Electra Standard /Street Glides (boy, does that Street fit me like a glove). The Standard seemed to be a bit taller and I was so excided that I forgot to sit on any of the Road Glides. I never buy anything when I'm pumped up because I tend to forget little things like thinking and asking questions!  Thanks

The main difference is the way the fairings are mounted. Electra Glides, Ultras, and Street Glides all use the traditional "Bat Wing" fairing which is mounted to the bars/forks. The Road Glide fairing, also known as the "Shark Nose", is mounted to the frame.

If you like the looks of both, then go to a dealer that will let you demo them, or rent them if you can do that.  They are basically the same bike, with different fairings and cosmetic differences though.

I was able to do a group demo this past Saturday on both Bikes at a local dealership. They had different size batwings and they happen to be the biggest bikes I've ever been on. I was able to handle them and got better the second time around. That's why I was so excited if you follow my dirft. I had been looking at a Dyna Super Custom and THE WIFE decided I should try the bigger bikes. Now she says I should get the biggest bike I can handle.

Sounds like you have a remarkable wife who wants to have some comfort when she rides along.  I debated between the SG and RG, and am now the proud owner of the SG.

From my perspective, the RG seemed to shake more on idle, and just didn't feel as comfortable as the SG.  Those that have RGs seem to really like them, but to me they look too much like a Goldwing.  Frame, motor, etc, are the same on both bikes.

I've had both and here is my opinion. The electra glide gives you more protection from the cold/wind if you live in a cold area. You can feel the weight of the fork mounted fairing compared to a road glide.  If you buy an electra glide classic you get more for your money. SG pay more get less but looks good. But if you take a road glide out for a spin you might never want to come back.

DID THE SAME THING WITH THE SG, ELECTRA STD. OR ROAD KING CLASSIC. WEIGH YOUR OPTINS ON WHAT YOU WANT ON YOUR BIKE AND THEN COMPARE THE PRICES TO GET IT WHERE YOU WANT IT. I WENT WITH THE STANDARD, ADDED THE RADIO, BECAUSE I LIKED THE BETTER SEAT FOR THE LONG HAULS, AND THE PASSING LAMPS WAS A MUST FOR ME. SG DIDN'T HAVE THEM OR A GOOD SEAT. BUT GOTTA TELL YA FOR THE MONEY ITS THE ELECTRAGLIDE CLASSIC AND JUST GET THE QUICK RELEASE TOUR PAK DEAL AND YOU WILL LOVE IT. THE ROAD KING JSUT HAD THE DETACH WINDSHIELD THAT I LIKED BUT. NEEDED THE RADIO RATHER THAN THE CRUISE CONTROL. VERY GLAD I WENT TO A BAGGER. WELL WORTH IT  FOR THE COMFORT AND BAGS WHEN HITTING THOSE BIKE WEEKS. GOOD LUCK WITH WHAT YO GO FOR, YOU WILL HAVE A BLAST IM SURE WITH WHATEVER YOU GO WITH......

It all depends on what you want to end up with.   Solo riding bike, short hoppin' 2 up with the wife or long haulin' with your sweetie??
If you think you will do a lot of long trips with your wife, either the Classic or Ultra.  Otherwise you'll have to buy the tour pack and passenger backrest, etc.
Short trippin' 2 up with some alone time too,  SG, RG or standard.
Solo riding most of the time, any of the above and strip 'em down.
I think the best HD value is STILL the ElectraGlide Standard.  As long as that silver motor isn't an issue.
WAY TOO MANY Street Glides out there if you ask me.  Done to death.  Nice bike though.
The Road Glide, well what can ya say, you either love 'em or hate 'em.  Sweet ride but I just can't get intot hat fairing.  Have ridden all the above bikes and owned a few of them.  The difference between the batwing and the shark nose fairings I think is minimal at best.  I actually like the way the batwing handles better myself.

You can't go wrong with any of the Bat Wings.
If you want something a little different try a Road Glide.
I love mine but they are not for everyone.

If you are planning on REALLY putting on the miles, the better choice is RG.
There are 3 in my family,,, 2, 04's and an 08.
Ride both the way you are going to ride on a regular basis.
Rent them both for a day.
Buy the bike that works best and make it your own. in the long run it is cheaper....

I had the same feeling about the Standard vs the Street. I have to look at the fact that I live in the Midwest and ride only a couple times a week (some say that will change on the new bike). I really like the fact that the Street was a tad lower, that's was so good. I rode the Street first, a Dyna-Low next and the Standard last. No a lot of people at the Demo so they let you ride all afternoon on them. Not planned - but not so bad either.

The main difference is the "Batwing Fairing"  is way sexier!

No seriously, both good.  I've been told by a guy who has literally owned every form of tour bike that the RG is the best riding/handling tour bike.  I personally don't care for the look of the RG fairing.

Actually I think the best bang for the buck is the ElectraGlide Classic. But it really depends on how many features you will use or like and what kind of riding you do.

Everyone has their own opinions, so here's mine:

Street Glide - excellent if you are short.  Looks great, may be the ultimate bar-hopper.  Too short for me.

Ultra - Great two-up long distance bike.  Batwing fairing transmits turbulence to the rider's shoulders. Neighbor and riding buddy has one.

Road Glide - Best-kept secret in the touring line.  Spacious for rider, as the frame-mounted fairing sits farther forward.  Least attractive of the line to me visually (doesn't scream HARLEY) but by far the most comfortable fit for me - I'm 6'4" and 285.  It fits me like it was made for me.  The fairing absorbs turbulence, so wind and freeway semis don't bother me.  The steering is lighter than the batwings.  I went in to buy a Street Glide, went home with a Road Glide.  I've added a king tourpack (detachable), a Corbin Dual Tour seat, long-stem mirrors, a Street Glide ground effects kit (that fancy rear fender treatment), Hog Tunes speakers, hiway pegs, larger grips, internal antenna, alarm and garage door opener.  I've ridden it over 11k miles (it's an '07) and know I made the right choice FOR ME.

You have to find what fits YOU.  The highest quality, best-looking suit in the world isn't worth much if it doesn't fit.  Same for Harleys - that's why they make so many models.  Ride everything you can get your hands on, and try to ride like you expect to when you own it.  At least SIT on every model - some will eliminate themselves right there.  My dealer has a Street Glide set up and gassed for me to demo.  As soon as my butt was in the saddle, I knew it wasn't going to fit.  I asked him about the Road Glide, and he had two in back. A soon as I sat on one, I knew.  The two in back were not prepped, but I still knew.  Asked him how long it would take to get a Cobalt Blue - he checked and it was shipping later that week.  We worked a deal and I traded in a '06 Road King on it.  Best trade I've made!

One more thing - with the same mods (TDs, SE A/C, DFO, even done by the same mechanic) my Road Glide is 12-15 mph faster on the top end than his Ultra - and thst's with the tallest windshield HD sells on my RG!

The Street Glide looks good but has limited travel suspension, the Electra Glide Std. is the bargain bike, I loved mine but I've got a Road Glide now

I was at a toss up over SG/RG. I uiltimatly chose the SG but it was a long hard process to decide. The streetglide has lowered rear shocks and the RG has standard size. Im short so the lower the better, but man did that RG handle, i did not know i was on a big bike when i road that thing. The SG seams a bit more lumbery but that is to be expected due to the fork mounted batwing. The big thin that got me was i felt that the radio was way to far away from me and her to reach for it to do anyhting, it just looked like it was an after thought. I would own a RG in a minute though i love them just as much as my SG. So either way SG/RG you can not go wrong

I have had my RG for 6 months and beyond pleased with everything except the features per dollar compared to an Ultra/Classic.  I test dove them both, TWICE, before laying out my cash. For me, the handling of the Road Glide was that much better. for other people I'm sure just the opposite. But when I felt secure enough to remove both hands from the bars on a "Test drive" doing 60mph on the RG, well my mind was made up.

The SG, with it's lowered suspension will never be as comfortable as the rest of the touring lineup,

Two up riding is not the SG's forte, comments from SG owners are what my opinion is based on,

The seats on the SG and RG are not touring seats, just look at the rest of the saddles on the other touring bikes,

I was perplexed between the Ultra or the Road Glide, back and forth in my mind as to which one  to get,

The comfort and handling of the RG finally sold me,

With an E-G Classic you can strip it down with detachable trunk mount, etc and have a fairly sleek bike for everyday use yet in 5 minutes you can have the trunk back on it for a road trip. The detachable mount allows you to use a backrest for rear passenger, the touring trunk, or if you go with a solo saddle they have a solo rack that is detachable and will mount over the rear fender. Lots of options.
