Can anyone give me an idea what it would cost (ballpark) to get the tank and fenders repainted on my FXDX?  I'm interested in switching colors and was curious what it would cost to just do a dropoff/paint job, with them doing the disassembly/reassembly.  Thanks in advance!

I've seen 1,500+ for tin swap and up to 3,000 for some nice work, depends on what you want done...

yea i got to agree .it all depends on who does it. and just what you want. if you want just a change colors and they take it of and put it back on i would think in the 1000.00 to 1500.00 range .and that would be for a basic color.and if i was you i would do alot of checking. because there is alot of people out there that says they can paint but cant do squat.

You might want to buy new tins on e-bay in the color of your choice, then list your take off's and it might not cost you a dime.

The last two bikes with all tins and bags, ready to go just light prep and spray, cost me less than $400.00.Incredible paint jobs, but you need to know where to go, and how to work with them. The other side, a friend who is into expensive paint work spent 5K for just tins.

Great info.  Thx guys.  Good point on the ebay search.  I'll look into that.  Just looking for basic color change.

I paid $400.oo for this job. The trick is to find a good painter that doesn't have a "painter-to-the-stars" complex.

A local guy quoted me $1900 to $2400 for custom paint with flames and airbrush graphics.  The range is because it depended on how much time he spent developing the concept for me.  This price did not include disassembly and reassembly.

A big part of the cost of a paint job is the type of paint used. \\;Material costs are something \\;many fail to realize when \\;getting a work quote. \\;There are polyurathanes, epoxies, \\;other high quality types, and there is your basic car paint. The better the paint the longer it will last. All paints fade over time. \\;Many House of Kolor paints are up to $400 a quart. That''s what your materials are gonna cost you if you get into candies and pearls. Then add 2 or three colors and your well over a grand in just materials. Any good and experienced painter is not gonna use cheap paint and put thier reputation on the job. Like what has already been said, a basic paint job will cost $1000 to $1500. ARBY''s $400 job looks very nice. It''s a simple pattern and the bike looks great. Be interesting to know what type of paint was used. But that painter isn''t makin much of a living if that is all he does and only charges $400 per job. After quality material you don''t want the prep to be skipped on. You can use the very best paint but if the time is not put into prep then you end up with crap. You get what you pay for just like anything else. If a guy quotes you a cheap price ask LOTS of questions. Pre-paint prep to your tins and quality materials are the key. Assuming you have someone that knows how to spray. Incidentally, a quart of HD yellow pearl paint is $411
