Sprocket size (81 FXEF)   Printable Version Harley Davidson >> General Harley Davidson Tech Forums >> Primary/Transmission/Driveline/Clutch >> Sprocket size (81 FXEF) Page: [1] Login Message << Older Topic   Newer Topic >> Sprocket size (81 FXEF) - 5/14/2008 10:27:44 AM    07_deluxe_ks Posts: 6 Joined: 12/27/2007 Status: offline One of my buddies has a 1981 FXEF w/ 4 speed and wants to get a little better highway speed.  Most of the rear sprockets I have seen for his bike have 3 sizes, 51 tooth, 49 tooth, and 48 tooth.  If you change the rear sprocket to a smaller size the more top end you will have correct?  Would anyone have a guess on approximately what the gains would be (I understand that there are many variables but just a guess)? If you go to a bigger rear pulley, the RPM's will be lower and give you more top end, but less off the line.
