I have a pressure gauge on my 78 on the rear rockerbox. I just bought an adaptor the replaces the rocker bolt and then a gauge threads into it. As a matter of fact that is the only gauge I have on the bike!

sutphen did you get the wiring on the bike all straightened out?

dirty78ironhead is talking about something like this http://www.jpcycles.com/productdetail.aspx?PID=5700010&cs=Vintage&GID=1216C81D-3D07-4E9B-96D4-A4B8078AC87B&store=&page=&search=

As far as the temp guage goes, thats sort of up to you.  You could probably fab up your own oil temp guage.  I have yet to find an actual guage for that.  But if your concerned about engine temp. or oil temp then your best bet would be to install an oil cooler.

Here's a pic of an oil press. gauge installed in the plug on the front side of the rear rocker cover as mentioned above.

I am sure not trying to burst anyone's bubble here, but the maximum oil pressure you are going to get in an ironhead's rocker box is something like 6 psi. On a 0 to 30 psi gage you will not even get 6psi to register (correctly anyway) on the face of the gage. So it leaves you thinking.....My God, the oil pump has failed! No pressure.
I'd spend that coin somewhere else myself........pg

PG - When I start it up cold, it will read 30-35 psi (not that I know for sure the guage is correct).  Once it is warmed up, yes it shows around 4-6 pounds.  I agree.  Looking at the oil pressure guage in that location at an idle can be a heart attack waiting to happen.

Yes, that's the running pressure. I just wanted everyone to
know the score with putting a pressure gage on an ironhead. This is a case where an idiot light is a better choice, imho..........pg

but it looks cool!  LOL.

I used to have one on the rear rocker box and really your right the only thing it was good for was telling oil pressure at cold start up.  After that it's just sort of pointless.  Normal oil pressure on the ironhead after warm is like 3-6 PSI.  Thats hardly enough to read aything.  On mine all it would do was bounce around from vibration more than anything.  It became a real big headache for me when I the threads on the connector to the rocker box stripped and the thing fell out while driving down the road.  Then I had to put the bike up for a few days until I got a new set of rocker box end caps.

Wow so I guess I should spend my money elsewhere!  Have you relocated your indicator lights for the Generator & Oil?? Not Crazy about the headlight shield any ideas on modifying??

mine were snipped off by the previous owner.  I haven't had the need to put em back yet.  But mine are different than yours.  My headlamp shield was removed and the previous owner put on a fat-bob tank.  On a fat bob tank the lights are on the tank instead of the headlight shield.  You could make your own mount that mounts up to the rocker mont stud and has a few holes drilled in it for the the lights.

That is a very good question.  I am not for certain on that.  I have researched that for a long time and I can't find anything.  It has Harley Davidson stiched into both sides.  It looks like the stock sportster seats that come with the 883's now.  But those have Sportster stiched into them.  There are a few aftermarket companies that make seats that fit our bikes that look like this like LePera, but I would think that those would have LePera stiched to it.

So to answer your question I am not for certain who exactly made my seat.
