It seems every time I'm riding with a group of friends (we're all in our 50's) we get these a#@wipes on crotchrockets coming at us doing a wheelie, or hang in the left lane close to us riding a wheelie. They are making it very dangerous on the roads for us. The next time, we may have to take care of that little problem. I don't need some idiot taking me, my wife and friends down if they lose control and come down among us. It's getting worse; every time we ride lately, someone shows how stupid he is. What do you all think? As we said in the Army, police your own ranks. Ride safe everyone; that means you too; crotchrocket riders! Jr.

In their defense,I was young once and it is next to impossible to control the testosterone.Heck, even now I still feel that rush after a lot of years.Make an extra effort to deal with all bikers as long as they are not threatening you.

These guys, off course not all who ride crotch rockets, but quite often like to show off in front of a guy on a Harley.  Look at me, look at what I can do.  For example, I was by myself cruising between 60-65 on the highway once when low and behold I see from my mirror a rice rocket getting closer and closer to me. Then as he passes me on the left side going 80+ he pops up the front wheel while standing on his pegs and rides the wheelie for about 1/4 mile.  What an idiot.  Some folks have a death wish.

If I come across a crotchrocket and I don't know the rider.........he's a punk, I just let them do their thing, give them as much room as I can, because eventually one of those punks are gonna go down or get pulled over by Mr. Copper.

I have a sportbike and ride it often. It makes me feel like a kid again which is a good feeling. Doing wheelies? Not this old guy. Hell, I did a wheelie several weeks ago on a cannondale and ended up in the e.r. I'm still sore from that fall..haha.
A buddy of ours with a V-Rod does wheelies constantly and I agree that it's dangerous. I keep my distance because I don't want him taking me down when he crashes, and it most likely will happen!

I've been on HD's for years and I'm in my lllllaaattteee 30's+  I sometimes still feel the urge to get a Hyabusa or one of the other common rockets and go carve up some twisty roads.  Then I sit on one and have to pull my right leg up onto the footpeg, let it sit there and have my knee be painful for 20 seconds as a reminder, then I go out and get on my RK.  It's h#ll getting old.

Those guys spend countless hours cleaning and polishing the underside of those bikes.  It's the best looking part of them.

The least you could do is appreciate it.

I have a neighbor - kid in his mid 20's - with a crotch rocket.  He and several of his friends often congregate at his house before and after rides, so I get to see and visit with them.  These guys ride hard - doing wheelies and stoppies at every light, but they are really a great bunch of guys when you talk to them.  First time the kid stopped at my house on his bike, I noticed the top of his gas tank was all smashed in and asked how the F he did that.  He said he bashed it in with a hammer so it was more comfy when he sits on it and wheelies down the street with his feet over the handlebars.  I laughed, and he proceeded to show me.  Long story short - I was a kid too some years back and can relate to their riding style.  It ain't for me now, but I'm old.  It's is refreshing to actually visit with some of these guys and find out that they aren't just a bunch of idiots.  They do work on their bikes and we often spend hours in my driveway or his working on the bikes and shooting the breeze.  I have been startled a few times by a crotch rocket flying past me in my lane doing over 100 MPH, and have felt like beating the crap out of them (if I could catch them - LOL), but most that I have taken the time to visit with are decent people, just crazy like most of us were as kids.

the new law in florida to curtail some of the stuff done by the crotch rockets affects all bikers. all the penalties were drasticly raised for speeding and dangerous driving on motorcycles. including up to a year in jail for some offensives.

What an ignorant comment. It's the rider that makes the bike do stunts and not the bike. Not everyone who rides a crotchrocket is a "punk". I get a chuckle out of wondering what people think about me when I'm not riding my HD. Most the people I've ever come across who think that bike makes the person aren't true riders they just think they are.

I ride my BMW sport tourer faster and more aggressively than my Ultra Classic because I can.  I always use good judgement and don't hot dog. I suppose this is why I've lived to ride +30 years.

To 99.999% of Mr. and Mrs. John Q Public, ALL motorcycle riders are idiots. Yes the crotchrockes riders are a problem, But sadly around my area it kinda takes care of itself. I read of 3 or 4 fatal crashes a month around here, most of which involve crotchrockets.
Very, very sad!

I try to look at it from the opposite direction.  They're only punks, idiots, knuckleheads, what ever explitive you care to use, after they prove to me that that's what they are.  I don't like people pre-judging me just because I ride a motorcycle, or a given brand or style of motorcycle, and I try not to do it to others.

Ride Safe,
Steve R.

PS:  If a person likes to do wheelies, that's fine with me, but do it in an appropriate setting.  That's "not" on public roads and especially NOT in traffic!

Motorcycles, regardless of brand, serve many purposes in our society.  For most, they provide recreation and a hobby.  For some, they provide daily transportation.  For a few, they provide a way to weed out the gene pool.  As long as you can manage to stay out of their way, let nature take care of itself.

This may sound insensitive, but any time I read about somebody getting killed because they were riding/driving at ridiculous speeds the last thing I feel is pity or sorrow.  The way I see it, that's one less idiot on the road that I have to worry about.

As another poster pointed out last week, this forum is full of Harley riders bragging about how fast they go, getting out of tickets, setting off car alarms with their pipes, etc etc, but the bitching is usually about sportbike riders.

We are all in the wind, and if we don't police ourselves, we can expect others to do it for us, as shown by what is happening in Florida.

Well lets just hate all over them....better yet lets just shoot 'em they are different then us. Forget the fact they could be one of our kids. Then we can go after the metric Vtwin riders....then European riders. Hey ya know what..those people on scooters suck too.

Amen, Amen to that!!

Those "John Q. Public" types that Will2002 referred to are exactly the types they have in Florida.  What scares me is if they pull it off without any successful legal challenges there, it will only encourage folks in other parts of the country to do the same thing.  Once the precident is set, we can be screwed in more ways than we ever thought possible!

Think about it, and Ride Safe,

I'm an old fart, when I was in HS our skateboards had steel or those old hard rubber wheels. No high flying with those things. In the 80s I hade an RD400 cafe' bike and preferred to keep both wheels on the ground at all times(not always successful). The big change has been the equipment, kids do aerobatics on skateboards, snowboards, bicycles and as soon as daddy buys them one, on motorcycles. They see the trick riders doing it and find they can too. Not being of that generation, the thought of rolling the throttle on and pulling a wheelie at 80+mph would never occur to me. Even in my day we pushed the equipment to the max, it's just that the max is at a much higher level now.  The consequences are too.
I admit that draggin' a knee in a 80-90 mph corner on the old RD was a real rush, if I were 20 yrs old today riding a 'busa, I have no doubt I would be wheelying with the rest of em'. Just don't have that kind of reactions anymore. Kids, and adults, have been challenging death since the beginning of time. It's not going to change now, deal with it!

'Cause me doin my thing doesn't put them or their loved ones in harm's way. I'll agree it isn't all of 'em. I know a couple rocket jockeys, and they're respectable guys that don't endanger others on the road...one of 'em actually takes his to a track when he really wants to open it up. I respect the hell outta that guy 'cause he respects the rest of us enuf to keep it where it belongs. But there are way too many others out there that don't follow suit, and don't give a shit who they endanger. Two of 'em 'bout got me and my 10 year-old son killed passin us in a blind curve one time...barely squeezed back in front of us as a van was comin the opposite direction. If they tangled with the van...no way me 'n my son avoid it as close as they were. Saw 'em at a store on down the road...stopped and "educated" 'em both.

I live just a few minutes from the infamous Dragon...and we get idiots from 'round the world...already hauled two dead 'uns off the Dragon this year, and it's EARLY in the season...just dumb luck when they go down if they don't take someone else with 'em. And no, the idiots aren't limited to just sport bikes...but they do make up the vast majority 'round here.

When I got back from the service I did some really stupid things on a bike (wheely on my Sportster while standing on the seat comes to mind ), BUT I never did them in poulated areas.  If I had gone down at 120 in the desert, well it would have been me and a few cactii.  As someone who served to protect the freedoms we have I feel I have the right to state that you are free to do anything you want as long as it does not endanger another innocent.

If you wanna do something stupid on the street (drag race, do wheelies, etc), go out in the middle of nowhere with no one around.  That way when you wipe out you kill your bike or yourself you don't hurt anything or anyone else.   I'm sick and tired of watching crotch rocket riders doing wheelies and other dumb stunts in populated areas in traffic.  And because of this behavior by this group of riders, I now take a dim view of crotch rockets (I've been a motorcyclist for over 30 years).  The wife and I were out riding the other day and 3 crotch rocket morons were attempting to do wheelies while riding towards us. I was just waiting for one of them to loose it and take us out.   I'm a city cop and it seems like the majority of crotch rocket riders seem to have no mc endorsement, or no insurance, or their driver's license is suspended (big surprise).

I'll get off my soapbox now.
