Hi All,

I did my 5k service myself yesterday on my ’08 Road King Classic.  It was a snap, but I have one question regarding my low profile laced wheels.  I followed the procedure to check torque of the spokes, which calls for loosening each nipple ¼ turn, and then re-torquing them to 55 in-lbs.  The manual says if you must turn the nipple past the ¼ turn point on the re-torque, then you have to re-true the wheel.  I had to tighten at least half of my nipples past the ¼ turn point to achieve 55 in-lbs – although I would not call any of them ‘loose’ before I worked on them.

I did not dismount the wheels to re-true them, but I did give them a spin on the lift, with an external reference point (a pencil taped to a poll) next to them and they looked fine to me (no discernable wobble).  I had the bike up to 80 mph on my test ride, and it’s smooth.

Do you think this needs more investigation – or do I call it good?

THX - Steve
