Do I have to remove the started or clutch to replace the starter drive? Anyone?

It makes it much easier if you have a socket to fit the 2 flat sided nut -support {if its the same as my 68 shovel} I made one from a 3/8 drive socket {3/4 size I think} and some machine work.
Be careful not to pull the jack shaft from the inner gear {again assuming its similar to the prestolite system} the gear and thrust washer will then fall inside the adapter housing.
