I have given up on trying to make my forwards work. I guess my 30 inch inseam just won't let me get as comfortable and relaxed as I want to be. After getting them on I thought they looked great and would be a better ride for me. However I find my self always having to work to keep my thighs in to keep the feet on, especially on the right side. I plan on putting the mids back on and maybe getting some hwy pegs to at lest stretch out when needed. I put the mids on today with the fwds just to see.....Wow its pretty obvious to me how stable they are. Just thought Id share and see if anyone has been thru this.
Bought my "07 SB with forwards on it. The mids are back on it now and the back feels better. The jury is still out...will give it some more time. As said earlier you sure do feel like you have more control, can't beat the look of the forwards though.
Whatever works for you, do it for sure. I never even think about it , I’m very comfortable with forward controls with stirrups and I have a 30” inseam. The stirrups make all the difference in the world.
i jammed a small piece of 1/8'' thick leather into the foot peg pivot from the bottom and brought the pegs up about an inch. feels better for me. couldn't bring myself to part with the forwards

Rode a friends Bob with forwards and didn't like it at all...didn't feel stable to me, especially in the turns. I do need some Highway pegs to stretch a bit though....

I can't quite tell what I'm looking at here. You put a piece of leather in where the peg pivots? How does that raise the peg an inch? Or did something else raise the peg an inch? What does the leather do exactly?
I just put on a deposit down on an FXD and am trying to decide if I should get forwards or not. I have a 30" inseam too.

I have the same setup. The stirrups do make a difference. I like the forwards without the stirrups, even better with them. I like that you can adjust them to suit your desired heel position.

Highway pegs for long straight or easy riding. Mids for inner city traffic and tight situations. Like someone else mentioned. Rode Metrics to long. Mids for me are a must!
I just put forwards on with Kurk iso stirrup pegs. I rode it and thought.........I don't know. Yesterday I played with the shift side and got it were it feels good. Guess what I'm trying to say is unless your lucky you will need to play with the adjustment for your sweet spot. But it is awkward at first but I'm likein now. Smiley
Hey for the post with the 30inch inseam leike me thats great it works for you. I had on HD heel rests and went to bootdr mini-boards and currently back to the heel rests. What I can't get over is the need to use slight leg pressure to keep them up. Unlike mids where its total relax mode and no need for that. My mind is made......Back to the mids and some hwy pegs. A couple of you have pm'd me I will respond because I will have the fwd hdwre to get rid of. Til then. Thanks a bunch everyone

Boom, I had the same problem with my forwards. The solution is this: I cut a tiny piece of rubber and glued it to the pivot point of the peg. Works like a charm!!
I am the complete opposite, when I bought my 06' Dyna Streetbob It had the mids and I felt like I was crunched up sitting on the bike. I have also had a past knee surgery so keeping my knee in a 90 degree position wasn't working for me so going to the forward controls was really my only choice. I am glad I installed the forward controls, I feel much more comfortable while riding.

My boss just bought a 99 FXDX. I went with him to check it out and ride it home. Guess what..... the guy put fowards on it. I had the same exact feeling, like I had to hold my legs up. 30 miles on that thing and I decided I'll never put fowards on my custom.

I have a 2005 Superglide FXD... I am 6'1" with a 32" inseam. My bike has the mids with the highway pegs. I actually think it looks good and it works better for me. Good control with the mids when you need it, and the highway pegs help with that extra stretch on the long roads that never end. Actually get a few compliments on the engine guard and highway pegs on my dyna. That works best for me but its always up to what you think is best for YOU.
Just curious if anyone has tried using the "Reach" seat that Harley offers? It moves your seating position forward 1". Or a similar type of seat from another maker? Does anyone know of a place that makes a solo seat that'll push you forward like the Reach seat does?
Greg
Edit: Oh, I see Corbin makes a close-reach solo seat.
