Default Southern Utah to Sedona, AZ ... a bit of snow in May1

Took off on Tuesday (May 13) for a ride from Cedar City, UT, to Sedona, AZ, and back. Weather man said it was going to be nice. No call for snow, at least at the moment we left, and we had hoped for good riding time.

Jimminy Christmas but it got COLD!!

Gotta learn to listen only about half-way to those weathermen ... epseically at this time of the year. We got rained on going down to Hurricane and then hit light snow as we came into the Colorado City and later Jacob Lake areas ...

First stop was Bikers World US in Hurrican, UT. This is a decent store, selling primarily for MSRP. Not sure if they do discounts or price-matching yet, but my guess is they will or they will go out of busines. Most riders today have a good idea what prices are in the catalogs and online. Anyway, they seem like decent guys and have a very nice selection of bikes. If you've got time to look at a nice barely-used HD or a new Korean bike then drop by the shop.

Next stop was Jacob Lake near the entrance to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The Rim was closed at this time of year, but the area around it is picking up business.

If you're not from southern Utah or Northern Arizona then you're probably not that familiar with the area. Colorado City (AZ) and Hilldale (UT) are "sisters cities" that are on the borders. They are a bit unusual because the majority of citizens belong to the Fundamental Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ... which should not be confused with the origina church (Mormons) that are know as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Anyway ... it's the Fundamental sect that has multiple wifes and has been in the news ... it's the regular Mormons that show up at your door in white shirts and nice ties.

This picture shows that there was still plenty of snow on the ground near the north rim.

Thankfully I was ready for the cold and didn't suffer too much. What's a little snow on the ground when there's so much ground to cover?

The area around Sedona, AZ, is beautiful. This streem is in the Red Rock State Park just on the edge of town.

The red rock formations around town are very lovely.

And of course the whole purpose was the riding ...

The ride was still a good one, even when the weather doesn't fully cooperate. We hit a smattering of new snow in both Jacog Lake and Flagstaff. Temps were COLD in Flagstaff, but they were survivable. Sedona was nice. The ride back from Sedona put is going into a 30 to 40 mph headwind. That was probably worse than the cold ... 75mph with 35mph headwind means 110mph buffeting ... plus gusts to 125+ ... sheesh!

Thanks for the summary, sounds like you had good trip. I am heading down to southern Utah over Memorial Day, hopefully it will be warmer. I also agree, wind is much worse than cold.
