I have a 2003 fuel injected Heritage Softail.  This all started just last night.  When I hit the start button, all I could hear was a loud fast clicking noise.  This was not an electrical click, but sounded like the starter bendix clicking.  I finally got it started and got gas, turned it off and it started right back up.  That's when it got weird.  I was riding it home and stopped at a red light.  As it turned green and I started to let out on the clutch, I could hear the same loud clicking noise it was making when I had tried to start it a half hour before.  Everytime I let out on the clutch it would make that noise.  I had to shut it off and it hasn't started since.  My dad was riding with me and he pushed me down a hill and I dumped the clutch and that wouldn't make it start either.  Just more of the same clicking noise.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like the pinon or ring gear is damged on the clutch hub , remove your primary cover & inspect it for damage , if it is ok,  try to enguage your starter with the cover off observing the pinon for proper enguagement
