Hi,
New to the forum and was wondering if you could help somebody from the other side of the pond. I'm currently restoring a '75 electra glide and have stripped the bike down. The engine and gear box is still in the frame and im having trouble getting the primary pulley/front pulley nut off. I have tried locking it up although it wont budge. It says not to use an impact driver so you dont damage the magnets. Any tips? Also just to clear up that this is a reverse thread nut?
thanks in advance
Chris

I know that the nut on the motor shaft which whole the rotor on my 87 low rider is normal nut, to remove mine I used an impact gun. Your might be reverse I don't know for sure! This nut is usually loctited with red loctite so some heat would help. You could use an extending on the wrench but you will have to lock the primary from turning. Some people use a piece of hardwood to jam the primary chain against the spocket. Also the nut on the clutch is a reverse thread.
Good luck

Ok we already locked up the primary sprocket and used an extender on the wrench. We havnt tried heat on it, it has had a belt conversions on the primary so it has been off at some point in the past.
Thanks again

A long breaker works sometimes, but as it was already off once I would guess that someone used too much red Loc-tite. You will probably have to use some heat, we have a 3/4" impact wrench that we use, it gets nuts off the a breaker bar and a 4' pipe won't loosen. The tranny sprocket is left hand thread.

Heat it. It's red loctited on.
