I switched to Lyndall pads and stainless brake lines on my 07 UC and I'm still unhappy with my braking, would the semi-floating HD rotors help much or should I go to the 08 calipers and rotors?

I ran th HD semi-floating rotors on my 03 Road King. They do help, but not enough for me. I changed over to the 08 HD brembos this winter and there is a major improvement in my braking. I was on a short trip with 19 buddies this last weekend and had two of them try my bike (one has a 2002 Ultra and the other one a 2004 RKC) both told me how impressive the braking is, and when I said that I believe that it has reduced my 60 to 0 distance by 15 feet they both said "at least if not more".

Floating rotors by themselves really don't add performance to your braking. They do handle heat better, so they will help avoid brake fade under repeated stops. For better performance, change the calipers and maybe the master cylinder. I would recommend floaters afterward or in addition to the new calipers, though.

What he said +1. Light weight floater 300 mm w/Brembo may be your ticket. I do not think you neeed to change the M/C but I will know in a few days as I am taking both apart. I will also do a fluid volume test.

Fastharley' I was going to rebuild my 03 master and use that, but came across a take off 08 brembo master for $45. Not much more then the cost of the rebuild parts so I went that route. It also came with the switch covers, and since the covers were in better shape then mine I used them so I ended up saving $. I am interested in your findings on if it makes a difference on the master.

Thanks for the feedback guys....From what I read elsewhere a full floating rotor is suppose to help braking all the way around because of better pad alignment but I guess the cost is about the same no matter which way I would go.

If i had the $$ i'd go with the the lyndall lightweight floating rotors. That will take about 8 lbs off your rotating mass(unsprung weight). Then go with the brembo's if'n yaa gots the$$.Nice bike, rob.

Thanks Bob,I 'm going with the 08 pieces with the Lyndall gold pads for now until I have the $$$ to get a good set of rotors.

you guys are on track, calipers make the biggest difference, more pad area more stop, forget 2 piston junk, i installed 6 piston hawg halters with brake tech floaters, direct fit works great, as stated forks make a difference, harleys mushy setup robs braking when the forks dive, theres options out there you need to spend a few more $$$$ to get the GOOD STUFF

Are the HD Brembo calipers a direct bolt on for an 02 E-Glide? I've often thought about switching to aftermarket calipers, but never did because..... a) where do get the brake pads from when you need them? b) I can get HD pads at any dealer and indy!

Direct bolt up but you need 300mm rotors. I would not use the stock HD pads as they do not stop that well + make dust while wearing your rotors. The removable rear caliper without removing the rear wheel is worth it by itself.

I found that the rear wheel is also easer to mount to the bike due to the thinner mounting boss on the 08 Brembos, but the Rear caliber is not a direct bolt on as are the frount calibers. The 08 rear mount has a 25mm axle bore and will need to be opened up for the 1" axle found on 02 - 07 bikes. Since the mounting boss is also thinner a new spacer is needed for the right side. I cut down an extra left side spacer to .71.

I believe if you search someone (I can not remember who) did an excellent pictorial on this very subject. The piece was very well done. I did not want to say so as I could not remember who wrote it. If you plan doing this job search for the person who did it. It was several months ago & well worth the time to invest in finding it. The person also converted & used the rear master cylinder & showed what modifications are needed. I have no knowledge in whether you need to change the front & rear M/C, that you will need to find out for yourself. Do a volume check on both & if it matches, you will not need to, if both M/C's are not the same, you will need to change them. You must match the M/C to the calipers in volume. I am sorry I can not give the author on the article. Maybe I could get someone with a better recall than I.
