I have been reading these posts where we are all getting knocked in some way. If we use a windshield, ride a sportster, wear a do rag. leather jackets, or chaps. If we don't have the loudest bike, the fastest, if we don't ride cross country, and God forbid someone puts a bike in a trailer. If we make too much money we are a poser, if someone doesn't make enough money and can't get a harley, or would just rather have another brand bike they are posers.

You get my piont here. What is your definition of a Real Biker in 2008.

I think anyone who would rather ride than eat is a real biker. I think someone who plans there vacation every year based on good riding weather is a real biker. I think anyone, man or woman, rich or poor, black or white yellow or brown, who loves motorcycles and riding is a real biker.

I am an average guy with average income who loves everything motorcycles. I eat sleep and drink motorcycles. I just don't know what the team real biker is. If it is a 1%er than i guess i am just a poser.

There must be dozens of threads here about this tired old topic...

Please do us all a favor and just do a search, and knock yourself out...

I hope a Mod kills this quick...

nah... lets keep this laid back. Just what you feel it means to be a biker. Everyone here falls into the poser and biker catagories depending on who you ask.

No one ever said wearing chaps doesn't make you a real biker.  You can be gay and be a real biker.

I see that I started something big pretty quick by one post. The thing that everyone has to remember is not to take text in the wrong way, because it is just that, text. Body language and all that cannot be factored in and therefore the true meanings cannot be found. Take everything as you wish and feel free to jump down my throat many have already. To any I have offended (Pete) my apologies. And for those knocking my sportster I believe I did well being that is all I could afford, after all it's still a Harley.

Nah man, I Think most of the poser stuff here is done more in fun and sarcasm. Since i have been on this forum I jsut see alot of poser talk but no true meaning of the term Biker. I think everyones defintion is different. I just love to ride and think that is what it is about more than anything. Nothing wrong with a sportster, I think the nightster is a sweet bike, but I do like to rib my buddies that ride em jsut for the heck of it. If i wasn't 6-4 320 i would have one for hopping around town.

Does whether or not you qualify as a "real" biker going to make or not make your day?
Simply put, you like to ride, so let it rest.
What difference does any label make?

Why don't we just leave it at "anyone who rides a motorcycle" is a real biker.

Anything more is just fluff, bigotry, stupidity or just plain dumb.

I'm kind of jealous of posers, they get some of the hottest chicks around.  So if I'm not a poser, can I pose as a poser so I also have access to these hot chicks?

To give it straight though, a biker is someone who rides and doesn't give a shit what anyone else thinks of 'em.  Plain and simple, that's all there is to it.

I wont pretend to know what qualifies someone as a real biker. I don't think i have anything to prove to anybody since i use a bike for commuting in L.A. traffic and i know many men who don't have the cajones for that.
But then i have an HD bandana and jacket now so i guess i'm turning into a genuine Harley chick, or in the strange view of some a poser. Oh well

Its a stupid over played thread. You think his answer is the shit I think its shitty. Who coined the term "biker" us or them?

Thanks to modern technology bike owners and non bike owners can spend more time being a key board cowboy then putting in the miles. I don't agree with the term "biker" as a way to describe me as it means " one who participates in motorcycling".  And nor should you.  The term biker is a catch all word that does not acurately describe the riders of motorcycles.  You have as many reasons why people ride motorcycles as makes of motorcycles.  I know some bike owners who have the bike but don't ever ride it.  I know others who live on their bikes and its a way of life.

Forums such as this are a double edge sword.  You have j'offs who post stupid stuff here and you have old timer harley guys from back in the day and everything in between.  Its hard to tell which is which. You saying:

quote:

None of you guys want to read our crap am i right. You got to be a man to post a reply in the forum?? you think i am afraid you are gonna hit me or something???

makes you sound like a J'off and your thread suspect.  There are other forums where your choice of behavior will be welcomed.

A real biker is a kid on a crotch rocket because it's what he could afford. I loved the power because it's the only thing that makes him feel alive. He doesn't care about dieing because he has yet to see anything worth living for. He lives close to work so when he can't ride he can walk to work. If he can't ride, can't walk there, he doesn't go. He rides in street cloths because it's all he has to wear. He's wearing work/hiking boots, jeans, a denim/canvas jacket and work gloves. He has 3-4 roommates that all ride so they can pay the rent on the salaries from their deadend jobs, make the bike payments and still afford gas. The refigerator is a place to store beer. The visit their parents often because they are quite loving children and the free food helps too. If they have food in their house it's what they could carry home on the bike.

They don't have a tv because they think there is nothing stupider than a bunch of people setting a room silently watching one. They don't have phones, cellular or otherwise, because that just encourages people to call them. They don't have computers because they don't want to join anyone's myspace group. They have a stereo and they love to play that loud. Anything worth being said can be said in the gap between songs. They don't go touring on their bikes, they seldom leave town. The only reason to leave town is a drag race or just to open that mofo up. Girlfriends are disposable. It's good to know where you can find a lay when you strike out in the bars, but the pesky little wenchs keep trying to tame them and there's always someone to replace them.

Work on their bike? They didn't buy a bike to work on it, but to ride it. Maybe they can, maybe they can't, but one thing is for sure they aren't paying anyone to do so. If they can't that's what friends are for. Whether they can or can't they don't want to pay for parts. They don't understand why anyone would buy a bike when it isn't what they want. Wrecks? Heck, duct tape will fix about anything. Riding it hard f'd it up? You're an idiot. Either you didn't know what you were doing on it or you bought a piece of junk.

They don't ride a bike because they think it makes them look cool, but, rather, riding a bike is cool because they do it. Other people want to be like them, they don't want to be like anyone because being themselves is just fine by them. On the bike or off, summer or winter, they're still bikers. Everyone knows them, everyone knows they ride a bike. They revel in how all the little preppy kids from high school don't even exist in their world. All the outcasts, drop outs, druggies, punks, drunks, thieves and assorted other losers is all that matters in their world. If the captain of the football team shows up here he'll be sent running with his tail between his legs.

That, to me, is a real biker. They aren't the 1%ers, but the 90%ers. Most of the kids between 18-22 riding a bike. If they could afford it they would be driving around in corvettes living in a big fancy house. Someday many of them will be the posers and rubs others so lament. They'll realize money is power and freedom. They'll toe the line long enough to get them that money. Then one day they'll realize they have the money, they have the power, but they don't have the freedom. They'll realize the only reason they don't have the freedom is they lost sight of what all that money was for. I see it, I want it, I bought it will become I want to do it so I did it.

Hmmmmmmmmmm - what's a real biker, seems to me a "real biker" has to meet the following cirteria:
  1. Hates Wild Hogs
  2. Doesn't wear chaps
  3. Hasn't got fingerless gloves
  4. Isn't gay
  5. Fixes his / her own bike
  6. Fabricates all his / her own parts
  7. Tells everyone else how to
  8. Rides a HD - of course
  9. Looks and acts mean even if he / she is a **** cat at heart
  10. Oh yes - drinks beer at every opportunity
  11. Goes to biker meets and rallies and never poses
  12. Rides in t-shirts and a leather vest
  13. Is patched (if you have to ask you're not)
  14. Is poor
  15. Has his / her wallet attached to his body by a chain
  16. If he lives in Arizona or Texas has a concealed weapon
  17. Rides in all weathers
  18. Takes 20 minutes to clean his / her bike
  19. Has dropped their bike and been hospitalised at least once
  20. Did I miss anything.................................

Silly me and there was me thinking a real biker was someone who enjoys and shares a common enthusiasm for powered two wheelers!

One day, when mommy and daddy are dead and they aren't there to feed you on demand what then. LOL

You're story was great and unfortunatley regardless of your current hopes and dreams nothing is more consistent then change. Thinking out loud, one day you're 22 the next your 52. "Snap" that quick.  While you are living the age apropriate life, your age will change and so will your life(style).

No regrets, no regrets! Its all part of the process. Having a bike to be part of that process has been really good for me.  I been riding probably since 13 and I am now 52 and have always had a couple bikes through out my lives changes, non stop.  At times its been the one bright spot through some dark times.

If I may and if you will so indulge me, from someone who has gone where you may be going.....try not to do anything that may change your life negatively and irreversably.  Try to take a moment to think, if briefly before you act. Its a much different and less forgiving world today.  Use to the saying was "you can't out run the radio"...today its"you can't out run the computer"...................

Now lets talk about that crotch rocket issue, lol. I'm kidding........run what ya brung!

you brits have such a twisted sense of humor.....I think you just described a poser, lol.  And many many other states allow concealed pistol permits. Wild hogs was funny and probably very typical of todays mid life crisis cruiser? You forgot .......spends more time talking about riding then actual riding, lol.
