I am seriously considering getting some fistails for my bike.  I love the look of them, especially with the apes.  I guess eventually I would like to give my bike full on gangster look.  That means Fishtails, whitewalls, and a 21" front spoke wheel and an 18" rear spoke wheel with matching rotors and pulley and all that crap.  I have to do this one item at a time and am not sure where to start.  I have managed to put aside enough to get the samson true dual fishtails, but then I did a search and read about the v and h true duals.  A little more $ but I have v and h now and I really dig their quality.  How do current fishtail owners rate thier hapiness with their fishtail purchases, and how do they sound.  I want a deep, low tone.  What do you ahve and have you had any problems with them?  Thanks.

I love em, and they look great!
I am planning on putting a pair of slip ons with the fishtails. I already got the wide whitewalls and spoke wheels.

I had some VandH before I went to duals... was not pleased with the quality...

I tried some SuperTrapp slipon fishtails... they were junk

Now I have some samson slipon fishtails... great quality... best stuff I've seen...

V&H fish tails are great pipes, fit and finish, sound and quality and they rock on a Fatboy.

Chris, how loud are they?  Didn't you have the v and h big shot staggered before?  How do they compare to that?

I just installed the Samson true dual Fishtails on my Fatboy. I had the V&H big radius on before and I liked them ok, but wanted the old school look of the fishtails to go along with the whitewalls.  I love em. They sound great. Really deep tone and they really come to life when you crack the throttle and during acceleration.   I'll put up some pics as soon as I can.

I had Samson's on a 99 Heritage Springer and loved them on that bike. If they fit the bike great!!! On some bikes they look out of place, on others they just fit!! Sounded killer, sorry I sold that bike, I loved it, just needed money at the time.

They can be loud if you want them to be.  I did have big shot staggered before.  I would say at Idle and cruise they are the same volume maybe a tad quieter.  As for acceleration I would say that they are loud, but that is all controlled by how much you twist the grip.  Over all I would say they are quieter but not by much.

You gonna go for the straight pipe or upswept?  I've always loved that upswept look on the right bike.

I gotta go for the true duals.  The upswept are cool, but not for me.

I hear 'ya, man.  If it isn't in the look, it isn't in the look.  I contemplated them with an Attitude Stick on the Street Bob, but decided it wasn't where I wanted to go with the scheme.  Like you, I went with the Sideshots and I was happy I did.  Good luck on the search.  Have you tried to photoshop 'em on your pic?  That's about what I did on mine, which helped in the decision.

I like the look if you are looking for that classic old school look on a dresser or bobbed FLH type. I had them on my '48 Panhead (straight fishtails) and they cracked. The small opening will make a unique sound and the added backpressure late seems to help mid-range a bit. With the newer pipes the end is more for show and they do show pretty well IMO.

Forget the True Duals.  They look "metric."

Seriously, true duals = less performance.

You want something unique?  Use one fishtail fed by both front & rear.  It'll look like an original '30s - '50s bike, back before HD had duals as standard on the barges.  Also sounds like nothing else.

Pococj has an idea worth thinking about...have the boys down in photoshop do some mock-ups for you.  I love fishtails and if I ever built a bobber it would be around the pipes themselves.

MY SE touring slip-ons have a deep, mellow sound that can be heard from a couple blocks away.  They sound great without being overbearing...at least the neighbors haven't complained yet.  I think they'd look great with the wheel combo you've described.

I put VH fishtails on last week, I had VH Ovals. I like the look of them on RK/Deluxe style baggers. The crack that exists in the note of them is not found in any other pipe.

I have wide whitewalls in my future too, which I think works perfect with these pipes. Like all of you have previously stated.

I put these shark fins on for awhile in 1993. Then Donnie Rich made me a black Thunderheader for her. Ran it up till a couple of months ago. I wanted to look different then everyone else. Now as soon as I get the Thunderheader ceramic coated it's going back on. Putting the dual fishtails back on took away tons of performance!

If you like them, get them. They look great on Chris' bike to me, but you might get 10 people that say they don't like them. It's like the turn downs on my bike, some people like them, some don't.

I got the  SSE fishtails like Whiskers has on my bagger and they sound great, mellow when cruising and will bark when you get down on them.
