Harley demo van from Milwaukie at Bumpus HD in Collierville, TN, Saturday, May 17. No lines or waiting. I test rode the Night Rod (VRSCD) and the Screaming Eagle Road King.
VRSCD was SCARY fast. Fit me like a glove, I'm 5'11', lanky, and can bend my knees. Fat guy with me cramped up on it. I like it better than the VRSCAW with forward controls (which I sat on but did not ride). Not a bike for riding 2 up, or for big people, feels small like a dirt bike. More stable than my FLH, not as flickable in a turn, more "Fatboy-like" in handling. Only thing I would change is to put larger diameter grips on it. Still ugly, understand personal taste thing, but after riding it, I think I understand what the vrod is trying to do - it's really a much better Sportster on steroids. Don't ride one or you'll get hooked. Man, why don't they put that motor in a touring bike?
SE Road King had a slick paint job and enough chrome to make the lord of bad taste puke, but ran like a dog. 110 motor did not run as good as my 96. Shook the whole bike badly. Wanted to jump off idle when you add gas, but then felt "stopped-up" and didn't rev good. Sitting position was bad - bolt upright with low beach bars around your knees. Hard seat. Felt like you were sitting on a bed of nails. Floorboards were moved forward about 2" and were too much for me. Could not shift easily with that gigantic golf-club-like heel and toe shifter getting in the way. At the end of the ride it was over heating and clacking loudly. What a piece of $h!t.

The VRSCAW and VRSCDX are excellent for those with longer limbs. Look for a "VRSCF" touring model to appear one of these days.

You must have ridden a beater CVO RK. Have owned many big twins over the years, including Twin Cams. The 110" engine is the finest ever experienced. No shaking, clacking, or heat issues. No shifting issues. No idle or revving problems. The bike hauls up mountain roads here unlike any big twin I've ever been astride.

F-type Vrod would definitely sell. There is pent up demand out there waiting.

The vrod lineup is being shaken up again by Harley. Word has it that the D will be discontinued and a Bagger version may be coming on line. Right now Harley is grasping at anything they can to improve sales. Oil hit 133.17 a barrel today, Gas prices going up tomorrow.

Our D chases sport bikes through the twisties with both of us on it. Never caught one, but they don't lose us either. We have a done a few 400+ mile days riding double. The bike always draws crowd telling us how good it looks.
For the first two months the bike scared the hell out of me, mostly when shifting in to second around 55mph.
The weight is forward and low. I haven't found the edges of the envelope yet. My tires also noticeably lack chicken strips.
The D is addictive. The worst two weeks of our lives was spent between the test ride and purchase of a D.
We can't wait for the hydro-glide. (Or will it be the V-king to be commonly known as the Viking?)

Just as the touring framed big twins have an "F" designation... FLHR, FLHTC, FLSTC, etc. so has been noted on the '09 H-D color chart, as well as a crate in Florida, "VRSCF".
