Dying to get a 48 Pan....
I have a 2005 springer classic, awesome bike & I love it! when I got it I had just paid off my car. Didnt want a new car (My dad is a mechainic so it can last forever really) I really wanted a 48 pan. I went w/ the FLSTSC because it had that old school look & new school mechanics/electronics etc. I couldve bought a 48 pan for the price I paid for my bike, if I was a better wrench i may of. Anyone else here settle for a new bike?

RE: Dying to get a 48 Pan....
I had a 48 pan chopper for over 20 years, sold it to build a garage/shop to house the rest and a business. I regretted every day of selling her. I just bought a basket 50's pan and will add her to the stable next summer.
You have to realize, they are two totally different realms of bikes. The pan is NOT going to be a reliable road bike for long distances and 800 mile days. Not happening. Your new bike, it is a bike for that. To me a pan is a looker, a daily rider, a weekend trip bike. It's not for cross country and over hill and dale without major maintenance and wrenching. If you are NOT a wrench, it will be a town/bar bike. Is that what you want to do??? I own three now, an 88 Police special with side hack, a 94 FLHTC for the road, and the pan for around town and shows and attitude and because I love them. Save up and get one, find other panaholics and get them to teach you and help you take care of it. But keep the softail and enjoy the major miles on her, and ride the pan when ya want to throw your cares to the wind and be cocky.[:@] Enjoy the ride wherever, whenever, on whatever. RE: Dying to get a 48 Pan....
I bought a 48 pan on a later style frame for $1500. about 20 years ago, After putting around $15k more into it I had to sell it..(keep the shop going) I sold it for $18k the guy turned around and sold it to Disney in Florida, a store called Starabilia for $25k. About 3 months later they sold it for $40k. Not many days go by that I don't wish I still had her. Definately wasn't stock but a real classy custom. I still use a pic in my signature. You only live once..Go for the Pan!

RE: Dying to get a 48 Pan....
Ruckster, you may had owned/ridden a 48 pan for 20+ years but I have owned and ridden the same 65 pan since I came home from fighting the Little People at the end of 1969 (40 years or so).
Been as far east as Kentucky (that makes her more than a reliable road bike and long disatnce rider) and she has never failed me, she has never let me down. Yeah, she takes more maintenance, but such is life... And as far as 800+ a day...unless you are part of the Iron Butt Assocaition....sorry but it ain't happening for most folks... I don't care what you ride... |
