Get your Pan. I was going to buy a StreetGlide but got a 61' Duo Glide instead. Awesome bike. This thing is the cleanest HD I've ever seen. Look for yourself. Thumbnail Image
Thanks Dave, She started with 2 kicks.

I had a 48 pan chopper for over 20 years, sold it to build a garage/shop to house the rest and a business. I regretted every day of selling her. I just bought a basket 50's pan and will add her to the stable next summer. You have to realize, they are two totally different realms of bikes. The pan is NOT going to be a reliable road bike for long distances and 800 mile days. Not happening. Your new bike, it is a bike for that. To me a pan is a looker, a daily rider, a weekend trip bike. It's not for cross country and over hill and dale without major maintenance and wrenching. If you are NOT a wrench, it will be a town/bar bike. Is that what you want to do??? I own three now, an 88 Police special with side hack, a 94 FLHTC for the road, and the pan for around town and shows and attitude and because I love them. Save up and get one, find other panaholics and get them to teach you and help you take care of it. But keep the softail and enjoy the major miles on her, and ride the pan when ya want to throw your cares to the wind and be cocky. Enjoy the ride wherever, whenever, on whatever. I bought a 48 pan on a later style frame for $1500. about 20 years ago, After putting around $15k more into it I had to sell it..(keep the shop going) I sold it for $18k the guy turned around and sold it to Disney in Florida, a store called Starabilia for $25k. About 3 months later they sold it for $40k. Not many days go by that I don't wish I still had her. Definately wasn't stock but a real classy custom. I still use a pic in my signature. You only live once..Go for the Pan!

Ruckster, you may had owned/ridden a 48 pan for 20+ years but I have owned and ridden the same 65 pan since I came home from fighting the Little People at the end of 1969 (40 years or so). Been as far east as Kentucky (that makes her more than a reliable road bike and long disatnce rider) and she has never failed me, she has never let me down. Yeah, she takes more maintenance, but such is life... And as far as 800+ a day...unless you are part of the Iron Butt Assocaition....sorry but it ain't happening for most folks... I don't care what you ride...

I was looking for a springer and ended up with a pan. it's a 48 replica hand shift, foot clutch, 12V .... lots of fun to ride, and she's the prettiest girl at the dance.

Well I can tell you I rode my 48 to work, grocery store goofing off and once to the Juneau Ave Plant to take that picture you see under my name. I used it all the time because it was the only bike I had running. After two years restoring it you kinda loose the ambition for a while to go to the next project. I bought an 89 Ultra Classic to fix up and be able to ride a lady on as theres nowhere to put one on a 48. Forget the buddy seat all they do is scratch up your tank. As far as riding a long distance, get a windshield it will help stave off fatigue. The pogo seat sokes up quite a bit, the very low center of gravity makes the bike balance and ride a dream. You still need a good smooth road, the spring front end is what really gets ya, not the frame. I leaned it out one click on the carb (Linkert M35)once I got on the freeway. With Linkerts you can do that while your driving it. http://www.hydra-glide.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?pos=-905 Thumbnail Image
