Planning a riding vacation. Long distance San Diego to Montana, then to Vancouver Wa. after a 4 or 5 day visit. A full day visit in Vancouver and then the trek home.
My calculations have us riding about 450 miles each day some more some less.
For you that have ridden these distances: Do you think this is too much or simple to do??
We are riding 2 up and I figure with breaks every hour and fuel/food stops we will be fine.

No it's not too much,,, 450 miles a day or more on a trip is not too bad, as long as you have a pretty comfortable seat,, sounds like you will have a rest break of about a week so you'll know by then what adjustments or such you might need time wise on your stops on the way back home.
Main thing is to carry the essentials you need for comfort, wet weather gear, sunscreen, cold weather gear etc,,, other than that enjoy the ride.

My rule of thumb for planning purposes is an average of 50 mph. That will cover time spent at gas stops and pullin' over for a picture once in a while.
450 to 550 is a good days ride.

We just did 300 miles yesterday (destination was only 300 miles) and could have easily ran another couple hours.

It really depends upon the person. Last year, I rode 2600 miles in 6 days, with a couple of days off. I averaged over 400 miles/day over the 6 days, but I really put in over 500 miles/day on the riding days, including one day of over 700 miles. I felt fine after the long riding days, tired, but not beat up or exhausted (and I don;t use a windshield and have apes). My seat is VERY comfortable, and the seating position on Reaper is ideal for long days in the saddle, IMHO. The longest day I've put in was over 800 miles in 2006. Again, I was tired, but not dead, hehehe...
Some tips that work for me: stop every 120 - 150 miles or so (you'll need to gas up anyway), take a break, stretch, reapply sunblock, have a drink, etc... Make sure you eat a good meal before leaving for the day, and stop for lunch. If you need to go to the bathroom, stop sooner than later. I find that holding a piss for a long time is really uncomfortable, and actually tires me out more. Listen to your body. If you feel like you can go longer, go longer. If you feel tired or like you want to stop for the day/night, stop. Most importantly: have fun!
That's a very doable goal. I too preplan about 50 mph average speed x hours of riding. Two up a 450 mile day shouldn't be too hard. Get an early start, and finish early in the afternoon. You'll do most of the miles before lunch. I love heading out just before sunrise.
