I went down there one year (prolly 4 or 5 years) ago.
Pretty good time, I enjoyed some of the music, but I definately felt like the 'old man'.
BTW, nice lookin' Bob you got there

Normally I would not talk about any of this, but this is a Memorial Day thread:

A three time combat vet and finally in the states for a memorial day!!!  I just changed out of command here in the greatest division in the world, the 82nd Airborne Division!

Me and about a dozen guys from Fort Bragg heading out to the Outer Banks area for riding, drinking (when not riding), camping, telling war stories and remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.  The weekend was dreamed up by one of the guys on the division staff while they were sitting around in Afghanistan day dreaming about riding hogs.  It was named after the silly movie, wild hogs.  We will march in a parade here at Bragg on Thursday and having the president as the guest speaker.  Then meet up on Friday and head out with the wives towing trailers and campers.  It should be a great event, plus it's our 7 year anniversary.  Wild Hogs!!

Man I'd like to do Rolling Thunder. Sounds like a really cool thing to do. Of course I'd have a hard time not flipping off our politicians while rolling through the capital, but honering our vets with all those bikes is the coolest thing!

I may find the beach 1 day, and find a benefit ride another. God bless and ride safe!

Yep Memorial Day.
Thanks to the fine men and women who have sacrificed the ultimate
so we can live free in the finest country in the history of the world.

Dawg, I remember recommending Del McCoury to you a few months back.
Believe me now???? Looks like you've researched it a bit.

Going to be doing some bike riding...probably to Abilene(TX) through the hills(little W TX hills) and then on Monday I will be competing in a team roping (one of my other passions--I will hopefully win enough $ to put more stuff on my bike).

Ya'll be safe.

Goin' to the Sasquatch Festival at the Gorge. A beautiful outdoor amphitheatre overlooking the Columbia River. Wife and kids are comin' too. One bike and four people = riding in one four-wheeled vehicle so bike stays home.

Never doubted you, brother! I always listen when somebody in the know turns me on to a good thing, and I'm always interested to learn more about great musicians. I had actually seen Del with some others on a show before and didn't realize who he was... I think it was with the New Grass crowd (and most of them are gonna be at Delfest). He was also on a radio show I listen to right after you mentioned him to me that time (funny how that happens..might not have paid as much attention otherwise).

Boating. Helped a good friend put a new big block in the 33' Searay. He is now taking the wife and I away for the weekend as a thanks.
So Friday noon we cross Lake St. Clair into Ontario Canada, Then we motor up the Thames river a few hours till we reach Chatham. They are having a "Retrofest" car and bike show. I actually wanted to ride there and meet them. He insists we go with him. I think his wife wants me along to assist with any mechanical issues with the new motor.
Anyway...Going to Canada...
Everyone be safe.

I know you didn't doubt me Jimmy.
My point was really - that you believe me more now
that you've had a chance to get into their music more.

The BlueGrass players will all say that Del is the King.

Another band that does a good version of the Thompson classic is
ReckLess Kelly. Really good pickers in their own   young   right.

Yeah, I'm big on those young fellas. They were in ATL a few weeks ago but I couldn't make it. Yet another top notch Austin band (though the main guys are from Idaho or somewhere  originally).
