I'm 61 I have ridden since i was 12 I have probley owned almost every brand known to man. what I don't understand is how a person who rides a motorcycle can be a poser no matter what he or she rides or what they wear. we are a brotherhood of people who love two wheels and the wind. It upsets me when people want to difine what a "biker" is. A biker is someone who rides a motorcycle PERIOD>  If I wear fingerless gloves and that makes me a poser in your eyes so be it. But I think the only posers are the ones who call someone else a poser.

Urban Dictionary says:

1.
poser

1.one who pretends to be someone whose not.
2. who tries to fit in but with exaggeration

An Avril Lavigne fan

"Like oh my god! She is not pop, dammit! She is totally punk rawk!"
by pool May 15, 2003 email it

2.
Poser

Any one who does not follow his/her own ideas of what he/she likes. Following no one set norm makes you real and following no one set norm makes you poser. Poser is governed not by the clothes, music, or makeup you wear, but rather by the state of your mind and the conformity to your own beliefs.
Posers conform to the beliefs of others.
by Alive Jun 23, 2003 email it

3.
poser

A person who attempts to blend into a specific social group.
Justin was such a poser-goth; sure, he comes to school in all black, but he doesn't even know who Edgar Allen Poe is.

Does this make you feel better now that you know what you are?

A poser is someone who thinks buying a motorcycle grants them membership into some kind of "brotherhood".

I agree 100%.   I have met a few posers though, they walk the walk, talk the talk, they go around the corner and get in a car.

Well... On the mountain (snowboarding) we refer to the guys who stand on the sidelines in the terrain park leaning on their boards talking shit to anyone who falls or screws up... But never ride themselves... They usually have the most expensive gear, and think that gives them the right to down others who can ride the hell out of their 5 year old beat up ridden gear.

An example.... I teach lessons over the winter when I'm not competing. Well a student of mine wanted to go into the terrain park and learn how to ride a rail, he was doing pretty well and had been riding for a year or so already, so I figured what the hell... Well he fell a couple of times, but kept getting back up and trying again. About a half hour later after him taking a couple minute break, he gives it one more shot. By this time theres 3 or 4 guys that just came down into the terrain park at 5mph with no skill what so ever all geared out like their favorite pro....Looks like the spend more time studying what the new cool style is than riding... Well my student takes one more crack at it, but slides off the side of the rail right before dismount and completely eats shit on his face, which everyone does when you really commit to a trick that you haven't learned yet. Well these kids start laughing at him and making comments about how much he sucks, so I ask them to take a crack at it. We'll ofcourse now they respond with "Nah, too easy, lets go guys" and they continue on their 5 mph speed race down the mountain.

Anyone who tries to be someone they aren't is a poser. As long as you ride and don't talk shit when you can't back it yourself, you're cool with me. Same thing goes for riding. If you're going to down me or my bike because you ride a 40k chopper a half mile from home to downtown on friday nights to lean on it and try to impress people, your a douchebag and a poser.

If you ever saw the movie "wild hogs" towards the end they give a good definition of a poser. If you haven't seen it go rent it and watch it. Good humor and an answer to your question. Dave...

I thought a poser was someone who only looked like they participated but didn't actually participate.  In other words in reference to motorcycling they owned and wore the popularly known attire but never actually owned a bike. Like the "guitarist" who owns the coolest ax, torn tight jeans, bandana on the knee but doesn't know how to play etc...

Wouldn't it seem to reason that a poser doesn't attempt to participate for some reason but gets caught up in the acoutrements of the desired affect?

I don't know I'm just trouble shooting here.

i agree to fit into what.to me it's just people playing little kids game . rideing down the road is no game every time you throw a leg over to ride there is no game in to that. when it could be your last ride. some people need to grow up. no body is going to see eye to eye that is not what life is about.and if no body likes me wearing chaps then kiss where the leather stops.

I'll go with the definition of someone who is trying to be something they're not, be it bikes or anything else.  You could also make a case for the difference between a rider and someone who happens to own a motorcycle.  My brother fits into the latter category.  He owns one, but has bad technique, bad road manners, bad maintenance habits, and thinks owning one gives him the authority to advise other on the subject.  I love him but I don't ride with him.
