Torsion spring broke on the garage door. Beemers stuck in neutral too! Hope they don't get cozy and I end up with a litter of fat little 3 cylinder cycles! So the bikes have the run of the garage and my truck and wifes car are stuck in the driveway. Door company coming tomorrow.

No manual override?????????????????

Oh man that sucks!!!  I'd have to drive through the house out the back door or something, (except that turn through the laundry room is a little tight!)

Not the garage door opener, one of the torsion springs. Those doors are pretty damn heavy w/o the springs to counterbalance the doors. Word to the wise, don't mess with those springs if one breaks or any other circumstances, they'll kill ya in the blink of an eye, probably the most dangerous thing in a house outside of flammables. (It's a 16 ft wide door and insulated, so realy extra heavy). I had just finished renting a big orbital sander to clean and smooth our deck for staining/sealing and had really had to grunt that thing, in and out of the truck, on to the deck, even heaved it up on top of the deck railing to use it as a "super duty" sander for the railing top. The thing probably was around 100 pounds I'd guess. But the grage door? I got it to go up maybe 6 inches and said "the hell with that!" Looks like I'm on 4 wheels til it's fixed. Luckily my truck was outside at the time!

Nah, I'll be gone before sun-up. I guess I'm just a ramblin' man. At least they can come tomorrow. The more places I called the shorter the time got. First place said next week, then one said in a few days, then a place said "tomorrow", SOLD! But tomorrow is the start of my work week this week. It was weird because I had just left with the truck to return the sander to the hardware store, stopped by Subway, then home and the door would only raise about 6 inches. Went inside and looked, didn't see a problem. Pulled the release and crap I could hardly budge that door, no wonder my 3/4 horse opener was telling me to buzz off, it was raising it higher than I could! Glad I wasn't around when it broke, probably would have scared the crap outta me!

Gilly,

In the 25 years I've lived here, I've had 2 springs pop on me. I now keep a spare spring ready to go. It helps that I have a "people" door to also get into the garage when this happens. I now also keep at least one car outside at all times.
