For the last month or so, I've been cogitating and expectorating over what image I might grace the badgeless tank of my '06 DWG with. Several responses from an earlier thread brought me around to see that with the badges removed, the remaining flames seemed to be framing "something" that was now absent. I can't help but notice how the swoop & curve of the main flame seems to perfectly match the tush & gams of a pin-up babe, a la Vargas or Rundi, and one favoring a "fluffier" curvier shape. Proportions would surely have her busting thru (pardon the pun) the upper double-pinstripes, and I'm still wondering about how to breach/interrupt them for the artwork, and whether it's worth trying to incorporate the spheres of the flush cap/gauge into the eventual artwork or avoid them altogether. Have a look at the tank/flames (ya see what I mean about the curves!?!?) and feel free to offer any thoughts, ideas, whims. I'm not yet 100% bought in to the pin-up thing, but the "frame of the flame" is sure lobbying hard for the idea. Whaddaya think? Thumbnail Image

I have had the same idea. I just called it WW II nose art pinup girls. A few people have done it on this forum. No luck finding anyone in Korea to do it yet....

Oh yeah...the pin-up babe pictured is just an example of the style I'm thinking of, included to show how a shape like hers might cozy into the flame. Personally, I'd like to find one a lot cuter, and a little fluffier.

I think it's a great idea and can definitely envision the right girl for your tank. I love Vargas but also adore Olivia although her girls are usually more on the skinny side. I absolutely adore Bettie Page pinup pictures and have one I can send you that was an Olivia. Not sure it's appropriate to post on the forum.

Exactly, ScooterWench. Betty is one that caught my eye on the link I PM'd to you...do like her shape. I'm thinking that the "art" will be confined by the limitations of the "canvas", such that the pose of the figure would have to be similar to that of my example (assuming that I wanted her form to nestle within the shape of the flame). I'm also thinking that a good airbrush artist (Pygmalion?) could compose the ideal pin-up by borrowing elements from several different ones. If so, I just need to look at a ton of pin-up girls, and pick a bunch of "elements" that appeal to me...I knew the job was dangerous when I took it! Thumbnail Image

Well I, for one, can't wait to see the finished product! Especially if you do a Bettie pin up! I just love her!
