I live in upstate NY about 3 hours from Lake George where they have Americade in a couple weeks. The riding is great in the Adirondack's so on a whim I got a hotel room for thursday & friday and we plan on going up there. As I look into the event more I see references to "registering" and can't seem to find out for sure what that gets you. I mean all I want to do is to be able to go see the vendor areas and look around a bit. Do i HAVE to be registered and if Im not will it screw up my trip? We just got back from Myrtle Beach and I know it can't compare to that but I don't like having to register to have a good time. Whats up with Americade? I know its more of a family event than MBBW or Daytona....is it fun?

Can't answer you questions but the wife and I will be there this year for the first time. Looking forward to doing some rides around there.

No need to register. The vender tent area is cool but will cost a couple of bucks to get in. Parking is free is some areas and you need a pass to park in others (like on main stree). Enjoy the roads, ther are AWESOME!

I live about 15 minutes from Lake George.  The registration basically allows you free entry to the vendor areas any time you want.  It also allows you to get into Roaring Brook Ranch to do demo rides on any of the bikes they've got...and they've got all of them.  HD, Victory, trikes, all Metrics and even saw the Spyder there last year.  I'd say if you're only going up for the 2 days, try a couple Daytripper passes for one of the days.  It'll set you back $20 each...don't know if your passenger is included in that.  But just check in at the Holiday Inn on Main Street.  You can't miss it...

The question "is it fun" depends on what you're looking for.  During the day you can spend lots of time in the vendor area.  Its pretty nice, but make sure you bring lots of cash if you're really thinking about buying something.  Nights are a little more adult if you hang out at Duffy's, DJ's, King Neptune's or any of the other pub/bars.  Lately, Americade has catered more to the Gold Wing crowd as its website is called tourexpo.com.  Rumor has it this year, they're looking to "crack down" on loud pipes.  Mostly if you're blipping your throttle...local popo will light you up.

At least you'll miss out on the great traffic jam on Saturday!  That's never fun.  Takes an hour just to go half a mile.  Enjoy your time and make sure you go out on some of the back roads.

I have been to Americade the last 5 years and i have to say its a great rally.First off its NOT a HD ralley like Sturgis,Myrtle or Daytona where HD dominate the streets..You get a little of everything...Jap cruisers, sportbikes, trikes, goldwings, customs, etc which makes for a more diversified crowd.Canada St which is the main drag is very very biker friendly and the shopkeepers love us.If the price of gas and the economy dont prohibit folks from attending this year and the weather looks good it can be a huge turnout and the traffic thurs fri and sat can be pretty intense. The best thing about Americade is the riding. The Adirondacks are spectacular and i suggest taking off through the cow and swine pastures of Vermont.Being from the city i personally love the smell..lol....If ya wanna tip back a few in the evening Duffys bar is the spot..Be safe and enjoy

5 Years ago my then 13 year old daughter and I rode from Nebraska to Americade..about 1650 miles.  We had a great time.  It is more family friendly than most.  A diverse group with all brands of bikes.  Extremely loud pipes are not tolerated in Lake George...although most will get along fine as long as you take it easy.  Scenic country, great for riding...I hope to go back someday!

To everyone coming up here, have fun and enjoy it.  Word of caution, though, 'cuz I didn't mention it before:  Make sure you bring a DOT lid with you.  Last year, popo had a hard on for that, too.  They have little "inspection" areas where they will check everything on the bike.  Guess the county wants dibs on all the cash people spend in town!  I bought one just for wearing at Americade last year.
