Ive been hanging on the Dyna side of the forum, but please dont hold that against me. :) An older guy in town has been trying to sell me his 1998 1200c Sportster. His son bought it under the HD/Military plan while he was stationed in Germany. The son had it shipped back and has not ridden it since. Its been started, serviced, just not ridden. Now get this... it only has 1,440 miles on it original. Ive ridden it.. and its a blast. My only problem with it from the start was, he wanted too much money for it. He was asking $7,200 and I told his it was too much. I even helped him after I bought my Dyna, trying to sellit for him. No takers. So out of the blue he calls me last nite and says, if you still like the bike, stop over after work today and lets talk one more time. I believe he is tired of paying taxes, etc and just wants it gone. The bike has 2 plugs per cylinder, dual disk brakes up front, but is stock. So I need to hear from you guys.. THE Sportster experts... opinions on this particular year/make/model. I would love to add it to my stable. bob

Well first off, it's not a 1200C....it's Sport.....Dual plug heads and dual front breaks tells you it's a sport, or he did some mad mod'in for just riding it those 1440 miles. Yes, $7200 is way too much. KBB list the sport value at $5400, and the custom at $5700. NADA lists the sport at $3270 and the custom $3700. Talk to him and see how far down he'll go.

It's a 98, does it have the anniversary badging/paint scheme? Not that that makes much of a difference in price, but I would be apt to pay a little more for a pristine ann bike than for a standard bike. Just my 2 cents. Get it as cheap as you can.
