I have a 2005 RKC with 23K on an Edelbrock modified TC88. It is now a 95" with all Edelbrock parts except the 95" harley barrels.

I do lots of long distance runs - put 19K in less than 18 months. Not sure what to expect from my current engine set-up as far as longevity.

What would be a good replacement motor other than HD? I'm leaning toward S&S, but I am curious to hear what anybody else is running.

2005 RK Classic here, just did an oil change last night.  Recorded the mileage in my maintenece log, 51,912.  My RK runs better now than the day I took delivery.  I don't think you need to worry about longevity for quite a while.  But if you've alreadty decided to make a change, I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.

I'm glad to hear you say that. I have about 5,000 miles of riding to do in the next 6 weeks. She's been very dependable the last 19,000 miles.

I should add that at 48,000 miles I pulled it down to check ( replace ) the cam chain tensioners.  I updated to the late style cam plate, oil pump and roller chain assembly.  All original parts looked good, oil pump showed very little wear.  Outer tensioner shoe was worn about .025".  The inner is still installed in the old cam plate assembly but it didn't appear to be worn any more than the outer.  Oh, I did add an Andrews 26N cam set while I had everything apart.

Some time in the future you will have to deal with the tensioner issue in one way or another.  Other than that, I think you'll be fine for quite a few miles.

I like your air filter cover, it really adds to the nostalgia look.  That's next on my list of chrome to add.

Thanks. It was part of the Edelbrock upgrade which was featured on the show American Thunder back in 2006. I bought the bike from one of the shows producers. It only had 4800 miles on it total, 1000 miles since the upgrade. Since then I've put about 19000 miles on it.

Why are you expecting it to fail?  I don't get it.

I hope it goes 100,000 miles. But, if it someday has a major problem, I just  wondered what other engines are being used reliably out there. Not really expecting it to fail at all.

You would have to completely blow up your engine before needing to replace it. Just ride and check it over everytime you change the oil.
