Default xied/mufflers/ air cleaner

installed a set of xied's on a o7 flhr, bike is stock except for a free-er flowing mufflers. Am wanting to add a screamin eagle air cleaner but wondering if it will defeat the purpose of the xieds ..will the combination of SE air cleaner and mufflers lean it back out again???

I'd just call the manufacturer of the IED's. They probably have all sorts of data or can refer you to someone with your setup.

I asked the same question of the guy at XiED and he said no need and no benefit to adding a high flow air filter.

No benefit? How about an additional 5-7hp increase... I'd say that's beneficial.

funny about that cause the guy at Nightrider made no reference to HP gain. I'm all for it if it's true. In fact I was thinking of getting a K&N just for grins, but extra HP is also a GREAT reason.

the reason Im wanting more air is that the stock air filter may be too restrictive... I'm thinking one might get a little better throttle response when getting on it...but I dont want to defeat the purpose of the xied's as long as the o2 sensors wont let it get too lean with more air..

That's what's not clear. Since the XiED's work in the closed loop at less than 40% throttle, the XiED's SHOULD do OK to keep it rich enough as they are meant to do with a stock filter. I posed the question and the XiED guy said it wouldn't matter. You supposition makes sense and I'm going to do it regardless. The Harley's ECU should take over at the advanced throttle positions and keep things Kosher. By the by, let me know If I'm gonna kill my bike if I do this[] Oy, ride on!!!

I asked Steve at Nightrider about pipes and air cleaner with the XIED's this is his response:Khrome Werks has a new HP+ muffler available. Check their website
www.khromewerks.com under new products. These will work very well.

The new bikes run better with the stock air box. So you don't need the
complete kit, but I do recommend adding the K&N filter element when the OEM
paper element is due for replacement. The stock mufflers do a very good job in the RPM range that you spend most
of your time riding, namely under 3000 RPMs. The 07/08 bikes are engineered
very closely to maximize power under 3000RPM. So a lot of the upgrades might
end up giving a bike more maximum HP, but do nothing for the daily riding
range.

The combination of gearing, air box and mufflers is something that just
works together better than expected. If EPA has allowed HD to run a 14.0:1
AFR, you wouldn't have to do anything to the bike.

My experience supports what Steve says about the stock air box. I put on the SE setup (more for cosmetics than any other reason) on my '08 Dyna Glide and it actually slightly reduced low-end pull, though mid-range remains strong. The IED's made a big difference in smooth running, adding SE slip-ons made the most noticable performance gain (with IED'S). I suspect the added airflow only matters at the upper end of the RPM range. The IED's do help with better low-rev response and reduce "surging".
